nice vid from today too

I only come into the thread every so often but this is the first video I have seen that makes it really start to look like it's getting close. You can imagine what it will be like on a match day in there. Quality.

Cool thing about dark seat colour is it hides empty seats on TV very well. Especially in winter when people have dark Coates on.

Nah, they can just do what they do in france and ask all the fans to sit in the stand facing the camera...

I guess the ITK about the grass being laid today was wrong then? Who’d have thought that!

To be fair, it looks like all the machinery is there. So they are nearly ready. Just prepping the sand. So although you can't see any green yet it certainly looks like its started.

People are peculiarly obsessed by the pitch. It's not a key element of the build, it never has been, any more than the seats, which people were also obsessing about.

They're both small, easily-completed finishing jobs, best done as late in the programme as possible, to avoid inadvertent damage to the grass or seats.

I know both have sentimental meaning to people and we want to be excited by seeing them progressing, but they've repeatedly been used as evidence that the overall build is months behind, which they aren't.

It isn't key, but you answer it yourself as to why people are keen to see it go in.... Could mean it's closer than we think.

You hit the nail on the head without realising it ? both seats and grass are quick to put in and yes everyone is a little obsessed with the grass going in.

That's because it makes it real, its nearly finished and were going home.

Exactly why people are excited to see the grass finally going in!

You would think the ideal time to lay the grass would be 2-3 months from final completion. Enough time for it to bed in and enough for it to be fresh. I think it would close the rumours on 19/20 completion. Would seem a bit odd to lay it now if stadium not ready till next July.

Yeah I’m not convinced by the roof design’s shadow. I guess we will have to wait and see what it’s like when we are actually in there watching the games.

Unless you can move the sun i think we'll have to live with shadows, just like every other club.

They aren’t using grass seed, the pitch has been growing for months at the training ground.

A fortnight would be ample, especially in Sept/Oct, which is the best time of year to lay a new lawn or pitch. They aren't seeding it - the pitch is already fully-grown up at the training ground. It just needs to be lifted, transported and laid firmly into place (probably using a heavy roller to ensure it is flat) and then it needs to be given a couple of weeks to knit and root itself in position.

A number of people have pleasantly missed my point. Yes, by all means let's get excited now about the pitch, as it signifies that the stadium is nearing completion. That wasn't what I was getting at. For several months, people have been moaning and whingeing relentlessly about the absence of the pitch and the seats as evidence that the stadium is 6+ months from completion. In either case, it's a 1-2 week job.

I think that when you are building a football stadium the grass is a key element of the build, it really is.:)
