In my opinion there is absolutely no chance you spend a billion quid on a state of the art stadium and not have the first game there televised for the whole world to see.
For the life of me, I don't understand this concept.

For the supporters in the stands for that first match - it will only compare to the final match at WHL. It will be glorious win or lose.

For anyone watching on TV - it will be just another match. There is no magic in seeing the stadium for a few minutes on TV. Its still a football match, and that is what the cameras will focus on. MOTD will have as much stadium coverage as any broadcast. Nobody is tuning in just to see a new stadium.

Remember that just because Sky haven't selected our game doesn't mean the world can't watch it - international TV can and would pick up our 3pm Saturday against Burnley were it to be the opener. Is Levy that bothered about the UK market seeing it live? I doubt it. And in any case they could probably shuffle it around and add it to the schedule - they already messed around when our game against City was moved to Monday night.

It’s not just about the 90mins of football it’s about having cameras there pre game, pundits live on tv from stadium gushing about how wonderful it is. It’s old news by time we play Utd if it’s Burnley first game.

Utd game is super Sunday last game which means the pundits would be broadcasting from our brand new stadium for the first game too. That’s a potential 4 hours of “showing off” what Levy has built.

Bigger picture, they’ve “spent” all this money on what looks to be one of best stadiums in the world why on earth from a platform point of view would they want some Burnley Saturday game to be grand opening, a few shots of it on soccer Saturday and sky sports news, even if it is live to a few thousand Americans it’s pretty low key and flat way to launch it. Utd attract millions and millions of viewers worldwide too, I’d be astonished if it’s not that game.

Hopefully my opinion is completely wrong though as less time to wait.

More I see of the upper tier the steeper it looks, love it. Has a bernabeu-esque stacked feel, it’s going to be so imposing and amazing for atmosphere. It is also terrifying as it’s where my seat is and there’s a good possibility if Kane scores a last minute winner I will fall to my death.

I do wonder if they'll be tempted to put the safe-standing style bars in the rest of the South Stand "just in case" people stand and jump around. After all they've got to be even more needed in the steeper areas.

Looking at the previously scheduled opening games that didn't happen it was Liverpool, City, and now Chelsea.
I don't believe in these kind of coincidences where Levy is concerned so I would imagine he wants to open with a top six opponent with maximum worldwide exposure.
So, if we can't make the Chelsea deadline I would suspect the next big game, in this case United, to be the first.
No it wasn't. There has only been one scheduled opening game, and that was Liverpool. Anything after that wasn't possible has been speculation.

I would imagine that whether our first match in the new stadium is televised live in the UK is a complete irrelevance to the club, for several reasons.

First, it will have zero impact on attendance either on that day or any other day. Secondly, any marketing of the stadium facilities will be directed rather than relying on happy-clappy endorsements from TV football pundits. And thirdly, as has already been mentioned, it will be televised live everywhere apart from Britain - whoever the opponent happens to be.

So I suspect that the first match will be against whoever is the next fixture when the stadium has held the two test events and got its safety certificate(s); and that will be done as soon as possible.

Arsenal's first home match at the Emirates wasn't on TV
I believe most people here over estimate the interest that other clubs and the media have in our new stadium. In my opinion they don't give toss and if they happen to broadcast one of our games and it happens to be the first at the new stadium its just incidental, nothing more.

I believe that the club is waiting for the new signings to be in, before we have our first game at the new stadium.

At the tierney of the year, we would be hirving to see deJong Ndombele play at the NWHL to the deligt of the Tottenham fans.

Unfortunately, we’d probably end up with Siss on our N’chips ☹️

If United is the first game, and we get a home draw in FA Cup 3rd Round, where will it be played? Can't see FA allowing us to use NWHL if we get through to next round.

The extra three games will pay for themselves through ticket sales, won’t profit from it but in terms of exposure they’ll feel its worth waiting for the Utd TV game.
If it’s announced it’s Utd first game I think you can safely say it could’ve been earlier as it’s way too convenient.

Seems weird that so many members seem to have forgotten Poch's very recent interview...

Mauricio Pochettino said last month that after recent conversations with chairman Daniel Levy that he was “very confident” that Spurs would be playing in their new ground “before Christmas”...

It means fuck all if Sky haven't got the game scheduled. All that matters is if the club have. With no denial or statement from the club after those comments from Poch, Im almost certain we'll be playing in the new stadium before Christmas.

Fucking hell. When we or won’t we open the stadium? We’re weeks or perhaps a few months from it happening. Remember when Cornelius knob (or whomever it was) was trying to convince everyone this stadium wasn’t even going to be built? We’ve come a long way and now we’re bickering over TINY details. Be patient for literally a few weeks, enjoy the final pieces falling into place before we come home. We’re close and there’s nothing to worry about.

Is it really credible that we have a new stadium ready to play in, the manager wanting to get in as soon as possible and the players desperate to play there and Levy says fuck off I wanna be on the Tele? Nah.

Soccer Saturday on Sky in the UK starts at midday and usually consists of a few has beens talking shit for three hours before the footy starts. If Burnley is the first game they could dedicate at least an hour of that three hour slot to us and the new stadium in the build up - probably more.

If the stadium is ready we’ll been in as soon as we can be. Just my onion!

And it would be on the general and local news also. It is newsworthy.

Still not quite decided if it has to be on TV or not. But totally disagree with this. If it was say Everton I’d be very excited to see the TV pictures. Having them do the tour and seeing a new stadium. Maybe that’s just me because I’m a stadium junkie. But I think the ssc thread shows how much interest there is from all fans. I’m sure if you asked most football fans and they were honest they would be much more likely to watch if it was grand opening. Sky aren’t idiots as well and know it would increase the viewing figures. Ultimately it’s a massive opportunity for Levy to show off not just to the general public but future advertisers. I’d be very surprised if he passed it up.

Why has talk shifted to the Burnley game? I still see the Southampton game being a big contender for the opener. TV deals are completely separate, Levy will get the stadium exposure he needs either way so it's not a factor. In fact it's better its nite on tv as anything could happen on the first game and the less exposure to any cock ups the better.

FAVS (force air vacuum system) helps the roots breathe by sucking or blowing air through the pitch.
I guess it can finely adjust the moisture content too, but I don't think drainage is going to be a big problem, as there is a big void at the bottom of the trays - even if there was a flash flood, it would all drop through quickly enough.
It all sounds a bit gimmicky to me, but if there is air above and below the pitch, that alone has to help the grass roots breathe, and future planning for a more erratic climate seems good thinking.
Liverpool installed something similar and their pitch has looked OK. (Although they relaid the pitch this summer).

How bad is it that a football pitch gets a blow job morre often than me?

some of you are speaking as if promoting the stadium is a one-off opportunity, there will be at least half a dozen if not more milestone games most on live TV in the UK and globally. First game, first glamour game likely Utd, first NLD, first cup game, first game under lights, first euro game...

Bit annoying to miss all this potential tv coverage if I’m at the stadium. Maybe they’ll put it on the big screens and we can watch ourselves watching ourselves.

No one knows but I don’t understand why everyone is so convinced the first game at the new stadium HAS to be televised!
I’m sure of one thing, Levy will want us playing there as soon as possible, TV or no TV

I mean, if we can't get a ticket I'm sure we'll find a way to see it.

It'll only not be televised in the UK.
