It's hard to judge something like this while it's still being built. I am not overly sold on it yet (west side exterior) but I'm confident it will look good finished because of how good the bits that are finished look. Mace have shown their quality in design with many projects over the years.

So what happens in the area beneath the screen does it go back to being straight or still angled. Appreciate the cameras can be deceiving, actually going down next week and may look totally different in the flesh.Just on first impression that whole area with the screen looks a little messy.

I think we can credit Populous for the important design elements. What Mace deserve is credit for not watering it down and fucking it up. But they're construction managers, not design architects.

Ah, well credit Populous for that matter then. Looking at their profile as well they've done some great work (Emirates aside) over the years. The T Mobile arena in Vegas has that similar type of abstract design in the top right below, the front looks great all lit up as well.

i originally thought the screen on the west side look a bit odd but as the veil has reached it I reckon it fits much better and when the veil is on all around it I am convinced it will look like it is bedded in nicely, just goes to show it's worth waiting to see how the finished article looks.

How many times on this stadium have we put things on then taken off again.

Did it with the seats, Glass and now cladding.

Aren't they there to reduce the noise and wind sweep around that side? There was more than just an aesthetic decision with them, I'm sure I remember someone more ITK about the technicals talking about it on here a loong while back.
That's a good point, they do look like acoustic baffles

That is absolutely stunning. Purely from an external visual perspective it seriously puts what we're doing in the shade. Some similar things going on but much more ambitious. We were probably limited by space, planning, financial and other constraints, but I am jealous!

Yeah it's a nice arena. I'd love to go to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, the architecture there is on another planet. Our country is still some way behind but I do think this stadium is going to set a benchmark for future stadiums in this country. I can see future developments using some of our ideas for sure. No longer will people be able to say that a large stadium can't offer a closed in atmospheric enclosure like the old boxed shape stadiums that are dieing out now.
