Psst - I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but Levy wants as many "tourists" as he can get.

There are two things going on with the stadium - one is obvious: more seats. This equates to more people attending - duh.

But the second, slightly less obvious, is that Levy is expecting a much higher match-day spend, not just on ticket prices, once you are in the stadium. More drinks, more food, more club (or NFL) souvenirs. He is not looking to increase revenue simply from more bodies in the stadium, he will expect the per capita spend for each person to go up as well. So if concessions averaged £5/person at WHL, Levy will expect £10/per person in the the new stadium. (I am making up those figures, I have no idea what the per capita spend was in WHL, but the point is levy is expecting to increase it).

So - this is where "tourists" come into play - they will traditionally spend more at the stadium, since it is a one-off trip for them. They will buy more concessions/souvenirs, and generally, take in the whole experience - get there early, stay late, go to the Club store etc.

This is why you see so much attention to all of the non-pitch items at the stadium - Levy is making it easier, and more enticing for everyone to spend money while in attendance.

Thank God Son won Gold that will earn the club a fortune(y)

Sounds like more made up guess work. Come on if you name enough months bound to get one right only 5 left.
I agree, plus I'm not sure how many police would be needed, it's not going to be a competitive match and there won't be any away fans.

Is it? At White Hart Lane we had 20k ST holders, 3k away and 36k capacity - I think (but not sure on this bit) 2k boxes, leaving 11k for one-off purchases. At the new ground that's 9k. All of the capacity increase and possibly then some has gone on STs and Premium, not one-offs. Perhaps some of the more regular members are now ST holders and will be replaced by one-off people, but I wouldn't call it certain, and it sure doesn't look like a plan to increase their number.

not sure if it's been posted as I'm catching up, but at the old WHL we had 24k ST holders

Sods law says that first home game will be weekend of 26th Jan because work takes me away.
Go to all matches at Wembley then miss first at NWHL - it's written in the stars......

Test event delays may stop Spurs playing at new stadium until February

Tottenham Hotspur are facing a further delay to the opening of their new stadium due to difficulties staging test events over the Christmas period.

The club must hold several different events in order to gain a safety certificate, and are preparing to welcome 6,000 fans selected by a ballot for a tour of the ground this Sunday, but are struggling to fit in the larger events in time to meet their preferred opening date of the Premier League game against Manchester United on January 13.

Tottenham had provisionally scheduled test events for successive Sundays on December 30 and January 6, but the first date in particular is proving problematic due to a shortage of staff and police resources in the build-up to the new year.

Metropolitan Police manpower is already stretched by the London derby between Crystal Palace and Chelsea taking place that day and it is understood that Tottenham have altered their plans. The Times has seen photographs from the club’s operations room at the new stadium, including a seven-week daily planner detailing the work that needs to be done by various contractors starting on November 26 and leading to the proposed opening date of January 13, but that is now being revised.

Tottenham are making good progress after numerous setbacks, but the inability to open against United could set them back by almost a month due to a quirk of the fixture list. The club’s next Premier League home game is not until the visit of Watford on January 30, which being a Wednesday night on the eve of transfer deadline day is hardly the ideal date for such an occasion, so the opening could be put back further until the Newcastle game on the following Saturday, February 2.

Tottenham have not publicly confirmed their plans for home matches beyond the Wolves game at Wembley on December 29, and are expected to issue an update later this week after the Barcelona game. Being drawn away to Tranmere or Southport in the FA Cup third round has helped them, although a home fourth-round tie on the weekend of January 26 and 27 could present them with another dilemma.
Just doing the same guessing and crumb-searching that we are...

Agreed. Theres only one match on in London that day. The police regularly have weekends with 3-6 matches in London on the same day. Theres not a chance the police would put a stop to a test event

If all the test events are done then the FA Cup tie, if we were drawn at home, could be the first game, 2 weeks after MU? Got to be a possibility

I’m alright with that. We’ve waited so long now that a couple more weeks doesn’t bother me.

@Phischy , you've disagreed with my observation about the photo being taken off-centre as a possible explanation for the "wonky" gangways.

Does that mean that the gangways definitely are askew? I recognise that they might be but it's hard to tell from the off-centre photo, (and it clearly is taken from an off-centre position (otherwise the gangways in both end are askew) so if you've seen them with your own eyes, I'll happily take your word for it.

Couple of potential issues there. Firstly, the away allocation is 15% in the FA Cup - I highly doubt we want to deal with the security issues that brings for the first game, plus it'd mean very few members being able to go, so it'd have to be against someone who wouldn't take so many. Secondly, we might draw at home against the winners of a tie going to a replay, which would probably mean it'd be too short notice (ten days or so).

Allocation does not have to be 15%. It should be (and I always complain when it isn't) but we have previously not been given 15% by the gooners. Other clubs also often don't give 15% or have tickest sent back.

Once again Tottenham haven’t released a date but, because of rumoured dates on the Internet, once again the project has been hit with delays. Locking this thread now. It’ll open again when the stadium does.

Not sure what the end of transfer window has to do with holding a test event. I’d understand if the article said a midweek evening game was an issue.

It's not a gangway, at least not for public use. But yeah, it's definitely marginally off centre, but as cameras are usually on the sidelines rather than the ends, usually aren't so central as that shot, the stadium will normally be pictured full of people (and when pictured from and end would normally be North to South rather than South to North) it's something that will pretty much never be seen or picked up on.

Thanks.

It doesn't bother me if it's off centre or not, I think it looks fine just as it is, just trying to establish whether it actually was on the wonk since other people seemed to be interested.

Actually, I was more interested in the photographic part, and about how photos can be very unreliable witnesses.

Great. Just like the doors on the stadium...

Oh no, wait, what? Apparently they're not as the wrong type of locks were ordered. :sneaky:
