You’re kind of proving my point. Camp Nou didn’t open for the first time this week did it - it’s been open for years. How easily away fans find their seats is not really a major concern when deciding whether to open a stadium on a Weds or a Sat.
That's the Spanish authorities though. They also like to beat innocent fans up for shits and giggles. It isn't exactly the health, safety and precaution culture we have here.

I dont know why you're comparing Nou Camp to a brand new stadium opening. We're talking about a new stadium with new layout and 60k fans new to it, not just the away fans. It's not like we're suggesting the new ground will never be ready for midweek games, we're simply talking about the first major event with full capacity. The likes of Wembley and Emirates would have been trial and error for the first game too. This ground will be fine once we've started hosting games there but it's that opener that needs to fall at the right time.

Anyway we'll see, I could be completely wrong and we host Watford in the first game. I'm not sure it will be easy for a lot of fans though.

The official test events are to test all of the systems in the ground. It's not just the fans getting used to the new ground and approach to it etc., it's also the club staff and the emergency and public services getting used to it. The familiarisation event this weekend was for ST holders and I would guess that the official test event would involve larger numbers of ST holders and members. That being the case the majority of ST holders at least would know where their seats are and what way they want to travel, by the time the first game is played at the ground. The club staff, Police and public transport facilities should be equally prepared, whenever the first game is!

just been given a ticket for sunday morning tour of the new stadium. very excited :)

It’s going to be so strange going back to the Lane on the Victoria line and not crammed in to that bloody jubilee line train.

sounds positive, from kingyid on coys:
OK so not really sure if it’s news worthy but the Newcastle game (02/02) is being played at the new stadium. There has been an unknown block on the issuing of hospitality invites to customers until Tuesday this week when the invites were sent. The invites are spurs branded and state they would like to xxx would like to welcome you to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium blah blah. I’m as certain as certain can be that the company wouldn’t have issued the invites if we hadn’t been given the assurances etc! - Invites have gone to senior exec level contacts within some of the largest companies in the world..... and me of course

Pinch of salt and all that, but I doubt anything would be sent out until the safety certificate had been issued. And I’m sure we’d be hearing from multiple sources if it had been granted.

Agreed. I think more likely that they've been drawn up in anticipation so they're ready to send out if the tests have passed. I doubt they'll have been sent out yet.

It does say that he's received one of the invites so unless he's just telling a barefaced lie the invitations have definitely been sent out. That being the case the club must be very confident they'll get the paperwork done soon.

Also if it is midweek the met will only have one london game to worry about and will have extra resources.

Just as you can see this stadium is going to be immense you can take it from me that the nou camp was one of the biggest let downs you can imagine .I was expecting something iconic but what saw from inside and out was a tired tawdry place with poor toiling facilities and poor eating facilities tho these things might be just the away supporters part and from what I saw Wembley has more quality and I dislike everything about Wembley all in all big let down but its nice to have something consistent as in the treating of us at the game by police and stewards nothing had changed since Seville a few years ago thy were thugs.

Haven’t they been meaning to redevelop it for years?

Nou Camp is very dated now. The plans they have for the Nou Camp Nou as part of the Espai Barça project are impressive though.

Sounds positive but we’ve seen stuff like this before. Absolutely nothing stopping them saying sorry it’s not ready and switched to club Wembley.

We have, but that was when we could still see a half finished stadium whereas now we can see it's pretty much done.
We also know the original plan was to open around a month after the first test event so this game ties in with that.

We would have had to perform all the safety tests before hosting a test event so the only delay would be getting the actual certificate signed off and that would only be a week or two after the test events.

The only way I see it not happening for Newcastle now is If the systems developed another fault which is unlikely.

Not necessarily. I would assume that the club would not undertake the certification tests until they are confident that they would pass. The tests were cancelled before, rather than failed. Spurs may now be confident that the stadium is ready to pass the tests whenever they are scheduled, which would be excellent.

This is a good point, everyone can see that the stadium is finished and ready to have games there today if we could, so if we get the signature on the bit of paper it is all systems go.

I am going to a Club event tonight 6-8 p.m. to see the Tunnel Club, try out my seats (!) and have a walk through the West Stand. I'm not sure how much of the rest of the stadium we'll be allowed to visit tonight. Depends on security stewards I guess.

I got an Executive Club email last Monday saying our membership packs are ready but they're being sent out in the New Year to avoid Christmas post and 'further inconvenience'. I'm not sure why those of us going couldn't be given them tonight !? However, I've had hints to expect we may be given a bit of (verbal) advance info into the stadium situation and the planned first match and what obstacles we still face in terms of certificates. As I posted here after Inter match, I fully expect Newcastle on 2nd Feb to be first game unless something totally unpredictable happens on health & safety side. Will update tonight.

The barriers have been moved back again around the South stand. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are going to open the main stairwell behind the shop before too long and maybe remove the barriers along the high road as well. We might be able to touch the stadium soon!!

It does make you wonder how much of a faff it would have been getting in and out of the stadium had we opened in September. I would have been all for it still, but the exterior would have been pretty dodgy.
