Really?

There was only one place I wanted to be for the UEFA Cup Final in 84 and it certainly wasn’t the Park Lane!!!

The earliest I can remember properly from is about 1974 when I sat with my dad who had 2 ST in the West Stand. All I remember back then was watching and listening to The Shelf and wishing I was old enough to be in there......
82 to 85 were my lean years, married, two babies crippling mortgage and only one earner in the house, working all the hours God sends so I didn't get down the Spurs much during those days.
That said from the sixties on the Park Lane was our end, I've got the scars to show for it.:)
To be honest that's the great thing about our club, we've always had great support from all around the ground and long may it last.(y)

As far as I was concerned the Shelf was the only place to be. Best view, great singing, and you didn't get wet when the weather was bad. It was the reason I first got a season ticket because when they built the new stand in the early '80s they moved the Enclosure up there and you couldn't just rock up and take your usual place.

The only down-side where I stood (right in the middle) was that a small group used to sing a completely obscure and totally crap song called 'What do you want to make those eyes at me for' every match. Wankers.

Yes I was in the Park Lane late 60/early 70's with me mates, can remember queueing all day to see Jimmy Greaves testimonial and standing right behind the goal ,what a night!

Agreed but in more recent times the Park Lane was the noisiest. Probably since the corporate era started. From my youth I always remember the singing area changing from all sides except the West Stand. In fact in my earliest years it was the Paxton Rd who provided the best knees up and sing song.

Its our ground and we call the stands what we want. Until we are in the NWHL we will have no idea on how the atmosphere and singing will work out. I would be happy to call the East Stand the Shelf and the White Wall the Park Lane to keep one of our best songs going. Unfortunately I am in the old Paxton Rd so I will be singing from there.

....having some banter with the away supporters no doubt

Which actually changes the dynamics of the atmosphere again, having the away supporters in the Paxton now!

Point of musical order, sir. 'What do you want to make those eyes at me for' was a major UK hit for Emile Ford and the Checkmates, ushering in the 1960s (unquestionably pop music's greatest decade) at number one in the charts. It was also a hit nearly 30 years later for "The Welsh Elvis" Shakin' Stevens. Definitely not obscure, but I'll give you totally crap though... (y)

Are we not better waiting till the new season? It'll be a complete damp squib having our first game there this season now, surely we are better off focusing on momentum for the beginning of next season.....

Yep, the shelf in the 70's and 80's for me - could barely move during the UEFA Cup Final!

Is that a fact that the new East Stand is called the Shelf? If so fair enough. But if not it is a a name linked to Spurs and it would be a shame to lose it. After all the so called kop or wall stand doesnt align with their names either.
WAS

FOJ has a point. Yes it's a little bit of poetic license and writing new history but our iconic part of the ground WAS 'The Shelf'

This area has quite clearly been removed from the NWHL and I would imagine 80% of the old shelf supporters?? have relocated to the park lane

We could call it the new shelf side....
We still sing about "shelf-side" at Wembley. If we can take it all the way there, I'm sure we'll still be singing it in the new east stand. I will be, anyway.

I dont get this whole familiar stuff. It's a football stadium not a rocket ship. Our opponents will be new there too but we'll be the ones with the fans behind us (much more so than at Wembley). I can't see anything but a massive lift for the players when we move in.
Neither can I. The players have been excited for this for such a long time and I can see the atmosphere giving them an edge in every game played there.

What about the cat c games that were refunded? Surely you would get more for a cat c and less for a cat a? You would have to work out exactly what each cat game cost against the refund to know if you've lost out. I think the way they've done it is the least complicated and fair way of doing it.

What they could have done is to have a reduced price per match for season ticket holders at Wembley.

Am I the only one getting bored by people saying "just announce that we will move in the summer"? How stupid would we look playing games at Wembley in April if the stadium is ready to be used from the middle of March? How many millions of pounds would we be throwing away renting a stadium that we don't need? Or are people happy for the club to pass on the costs to the fans going to the games?

I wonder how many of those people are watching the games on the TV? Anybody who has been going to Wembley for the last couple of seasons will want to move in as soon as it is ready.

Come off it mate, it's so much more vague. It's basically the same update other than the remedial works are "near completion" but it's even less commital than the last one that promised an update in 2-3 weeks. Now it's just "due course". It feels like it was a token gesture purely because they missed the last update deadline they set themselves, with no new information.

they might of had to approach it in a different way. they might of wanted to say, due to the MET who won't allow us this fixture as an opener, so are hiding behind the same details as last. perhaps they have been trying to convince the MET over the last week to let this happen, but failed.

the big difference with this update though is they haven't announced anything about the Palace match. they could of as easily said that if Palace fail to progress our match with them will be at Wembley.

come on Donny another shock will be music too our ears, even though I'll have to watch it on the box

This update is totally expected, given the uncertainty of when the Palace and Brighton games might be played.

The reaction to the update really just feels like people are just getting angry for the sake of it this time. From the information in this thread - and indeed anywhere online - the Arsenal game was never going to open the new stadium, so I'm surprised it appears there still existed people out there who were holding out hope for that match.

Also, while the update doesn't tell us much new, it does tell us that we are now in the final stages of testing the fire safety systems, which is significant and shows we are much closer. The club could have waited longer for this stage to pass, but then they would have been criticised for a lack of communication so they can't really win here.

Anyway, the positive thing for me is that the announcement tallies with the insider info we have got this past week. If this next few days goes well it sounds like we'll be able to get the test events planned, and the certificate will follow shortly after.

Let's just hope that Palace and/or Brighton get knocked out next weekend so we can get the official opening match locked in.

COYS!
I think we may still struggle for the Palace game, but I think Brighton looks like a real possibility at the moment providing they don't progress in the cup. We'd then have an additional three home games this season which would be nice.

Maybe I haven't explained this very well. The point i'm trying to make is that the club have been refunding 1/19th per game so far, basically saying that all games are of equal value. The NLD against Arsenal is worth just as much as Huddersfield at home. As fans, we know this isn't the case.

My season ticket cost £975 this year. If spurs had offered to sell me the same season ticket, minus the games against the other top six teams, for £719 (1/19th off for each one), there's no way I would have bought it. For the final five games left to be of equivalent value to the overall season ticket, at least one of the fixtures would had to have been against a top 6 rival.

Basically, i'm saying that i'd pay a lot more money to watch Spurs against a top 6 team (for obvious reasons) than I would to watch Spurs against a team lower down the league, yet the season ticket refund system has equated them as the same. It's not right IMO that fans will therefore (assuming the palace game is the first in the new stadium) be charged more per game for their season tickets than the equivalent individual category price.

because a ST is categorised per match. they only do that to members. a category C for a member will be in the £55 range, Cat B £65, and Cat A will be around the £70-£75. as a ST holder you receive a discount and a guaranteed seat
