Tottenham Hotspur have been warned that they may not be able to play at their new stadium until March because of continuing issues with the site. Contractors on the project are working towards two different opening dates— the Premier League game against Manchester United on January 13 and the London derby with Arsenal on March 2 — with the building companies involved believing the latter date to be the most realistic.

Someone's been chatting to several people and deciding to print only the most alarming thing they heard.

What time period do you think is the likely opening date?

I have no inside info that would tell me that. The stadium is visibly complete. The alarm system is reputedly still being rectified. I'm not an expert on modern software-controlled integrated alarm systems, so I don't know how long it will be before they can reschedule the test events.

What I can conclude from all the available evidence is that the alarm fiasco is not being used as cover for the whole stadium build being months behind. It's obviously ready now and has probably been fit to hold football matches, alarms excepted, for a number of weeks.

If indeed true, I'm still not sold on the idea of our first fixture being against a top 6 rival.

Yes, I know UTD are struggling somewhat, but that's not going to last all season I feel. We've been told the first fixture could have been Liverpool, maybe City, now UTD or Arsenal.

I dread the thought of losing our first game in the new stadium, press and fans will have a feckin field day.

If indeed March, I'd sooner we waited until next season in any case. Get the build well and truly finished. Not match ready, but totally ready for a big launch with Sky cameras accessing different areas of the stadium all day in build up to kick off.

Would give us a chance to familiarise the players to the new pitch and surroundings with a few pre-season friendlies in the close season also, maybe allowing for us to hit the ground running and hold the upper hand against all those teams whom now have to play in a stadium they've never experienced before.

Let's get this opening right, that includes giving ourselves the best chance of opening day success by way of fixture.

Our closing ceremony of WHL was pure class, let the opening be the same in the new stadium.

I would DEFINITELY prefer it to be held over until next season. We can then have a proper unveiling like we'd hoped for at the beginning of this season.

Lets open the stadium on the last home match of this season, same way that sometimes the next season's shirt is worn on the last day of the campaign. Then celebrate the new stadium in a style that rivals our closing ceremony of WHL. LOL.

Either really - last home game of season or first home game of next season but it definitely deserves something special.

Agreed, they should open the stadium for the last game and give it the fans a present for the fiasco we've endure this season.

I've been to Wembley once this season, the year prior, I made the trip for all the home matches, but this year the Wembley novelty, for all the hassle getting in and out and addition cost, put paid to that.
