Can anybody clarify where we stand with the 2018 transfer window rules. Our window opens and closes earlier than the rest of Europe, so, we can presumably buy players from anywhere, even though the window isn't open in other countries. Do we then have to wait to register them til the other window is open?

At the end of our window, can clubs from abroad still try to sign our players? If they can it would be a prime opportunity to unsettle English players who won't get a domestic move. Seems like one one hand we could have our business tied up before the season starts, but on the other hand we could still be vulnerable to losing players with no ability to replace them.

I'm really not sure how this will benefit English clubs to be honest.

The transfer window is for buying players, not selling. So we can buy from the start of the window until it closes just before the season starts regardless of where the player is based, and clubs abroad can buy our players whenever their transfer window is open. In practice though, PL clubs will just make clear that they won't be selling anyone they want to keep once it's too late to replace them and tell agents and interested clubs that they'll have to get it done early.

In that case, i can see clubs from abroad being reluctant to sell players to English clubs until their window opens and they can get the replacements they want. I also don't think there's much chance of saying you won't sell after our window closes if big foreign clubs are sniffing around players from the EPL.

Prem Window opens 2 weeks before Euro window opens and closes 3 weeks before Euro window closes, it just means that teams can't buy players if the window is closed but they can sell outside of the window, so if a Prem team buys a player from Spain in the 2 weeks before the European window opens then they can buy and register straight away.

Once the Prem window closes Euro clubs can buy Prem based players as their window is still open, don't see such a major issue anyway, Prem clubs do not HAVE to sell to Euro teams when the window closes, If anything if European teams want a player from the Prem in it's their best interests to get their business done early because the minute the domestic window closes those player prices will shoot up. You'd imagine that if a manager didn't want a player in their squad they'd find some time in those 2 months to sell them abroad so if they're still hanging around in the squad it's likely that they'd want to keep them or they couldn't find a buyer for them regardless.

Surely the players can be bought whenever. They just can’t be registered until the window opens.

If only there was a clever chairman, somewhere who loves a bit of brinkmanship, who may well use that to get more money for players that the club want rid of. Risky but the reward maybe worth it.

We will see, but I think just the opposite of you.

Teams can buy any time before the window opens - and I don't think anyone will be sold - unless a team wants to sell - after the deadline.*

*The only players, if any, that will be sold are dead wood - not players who have their heads turned after the deadline. PL teams all can afford to turn down any offer for any player. And, if the teams don't have replacements, they wont sell.

You have to remember that in August there are 14 teams scared of relegation (costing at least £100m), and 6 scared of missing out on the Champions League (costing at least £50m). Nobody in their right minds is going to sell a player they need with no opportunity to buy a replacement in those circumstances, and if the players are warned of this beforehand they really can't complain.

But you’re ruling out chairman ineptitude there. That’s always present at at least one club.

Wouldn't the club we would buy a player from be the one selling?

Yes, and they can sell a player to whoever is currently in their transfer window, even if theirs is closed, but cannot buy until their own is open, then they can buy from anyone even if the selling team is not in their window, because it is for buying players not selling. Unless Bassong is still suspended in which case we drop into the Europa League.

I said last summer it is a crap idea, unless the whole of Europe fall in line. Most managers now against it, and moreso those who championed. IDIOTS!

I am still for it and hope other leagues eventually follow.we always start the season slowly and am sure some of it is down to the uncertainty of who is still coming in.

Why all of a sudden is it a crap idea?

Selling clubs holds the cards, if especially European club wants sand player. They have no allegiance to wait for us (EPL). If we (EPL) need to sell certain players abroad to offset funds to purchase, you can see what is going to happen

Doesn't make any sense why the prem decided to do this all by themselves without the rest of Europe doing the same.

They're arrogant enough (although perhaps justifiably) to think that everyone else will quickly fall into place behind them.

This summer's going to be a complete mess with this new transfer window. Hopefully they'll see some sense and fall back in line with Europe next year

In that case the only monopoly that Euro teams have over EPL teams is that they can dictate the price of the player because I predict that their prices will increase outside of the TW, think about it, players who Euro teams are interested in will be available cheaper during the window so it's in their best interests to get the deal done.
