Visiting fans say Spurs had opened just two turnstiles to deal with the upper tier of the away end of 4,200 people.
Fans took to Twitter to document their experience, with one calling it “horrific crowd control”.
The Met police say that turnstiles had to be closed because a flare was set off in the away concourse which set off fire alarms
For the record, i totally agree.for all that the police were at fault for hilsboro it was mainly caused by fans staying in the pub for as long as possible and then turning up en masse and then trying to push there way to the front of the already lined up peaceful fans. if the fans at the newcastle match entered the ground as early as possible this problem would not have occured
those of you that are old enough will testify that this turning up late in a drunken mob was a ploy mainly used by everton, west ham, liverpool, and man unt fans back in the late sixties and in the seventies
the idea being that because of the crush the gates would be opened in the cause of safety and thereby allowing the many amongst these that did not have tickets free entry
as always in these situations the people who were leggally taking there turn
waiting to get in were subject to immense pressure caused by the mob
..because the Mirror saw it as an opportunity to post its usual anti-Spurs crap. Their initial report, and the intervention of the local MP, both omitted any mention of the flare and fire alarm, and suggested that the whole incident was caused by Spurs' inefficient crowd management..So it was one of their fans who let of a flare causing the other turnstiles to be closed due to a fire hazard. Why are we being made out to be the bad guys in this?
