Mostly scrappy and disjointed but thank fuck we won. This place would be a disaster zone if we'd drawn / lost.

Tough second half, but I will take 3 points any way we can get them. Difficult first fixture especially with half the team only returning to training a week or so ago. Aurier continued to look like an absolute liability, though.

The most worrying thing for me is that Kane looks absolutely shot.

He's looked ineffective in open play since coming back from his last injury. Just doesn't seem to have any pace or strength.

I'll say again dire today.

Good result against newcastle in the end, always tough at there place. We looked very tired at the end though, to be expected I guess. Hopefully we can build fitness in the next few weeks.

A win and three points away to start the season. We clearly ran out of gas early into the second half but I guess playing beats training for getting match fit. If we can just get through these first few games without throwing away points I can see a real title challenge this season.

Newcastle gave it everything and were unlucky but we fought to the end which is so great to see as this is the quality we most need this season to move from being nearly men to becoming winners. Lets face it Newcastle always give us a hard game as few managers have the defensive nous of Benitez

I just don't understand why Poch didn't even consider bringing Toby on for last few mins, instead of Kane for example. This is how you grind out the win, not by gambling.

Not a good performance, but obviously glad we got the 3 points. The first few weeks aren't going to be pretty but hopefully we can grind out the results like today.

3 pts is 3 pts.

I'll try to remember this one when some bottom five team gets a 0-0 despite us having 3732 shots.

What’s all this Sky bollocks about Poch taking a gamble by “going strong” and playing a perfectly normal team?

Trying to create controversy out of absolutely nothing.

They need something to fill the time when they aren’t telling us that the first goal was only 9mm over the line

Not sure what's up with Kane he says he's not injured but he's lacking any spark at the moment.
I don’t say this because he didn’t score but I’m worried for Kane this season. He hasn’t looked fit since he came back from his injury and needed a rest, couldn’t the club see that?

I’m still confident he will get a lot of goals as usual but his all round game won’t be as good
It's weird he was never the quickest but he seems to have got even slower. He isn't even throwing himself about like he used to. I'm sure he'll get goals too but he's lost something and it's very noticeable. Feels odd saying it about a player with his record and WC golden boot lol

Because removing a striker and adding a defender just adds more pressure on the defence since we'll have even less out balls available.

Really hope we can reintegrate Rose back into the first team. Thought both fullbacks were really poor today. Davies played so many hospital balls and lost out on most challenges. My worry is that it seems there is no going back when you cross Poch.

Not great but big win considering the lack of pre season for our big game players. Knee jerk reaction: aurier complete liability, sissoko nothing but someone who tries hard & has a bit of pace, no where near good enough for a top 4 team & Moura's gonna be a disappointment. Still don't think Davies is good enough either. Surprised son didn't start seeing as he's off with korea from tomorrow
