Jan still bitter about the goal that was chalked off against Sunderland (offside in his own half).

I don't see why Sissoko is getting so much stick. I thought he played well today for a position he's not used to. Could easily have had a goal too.

Aurier's defending/positioning was also poor, but he was decent in an attacking sense, with an assist, so on balance was no sloppier than many other players out there (Davies, Kane and Eriksen all showing some rustiness out there).

Sissoko is getting too much stick at the moment. He actually was pretty useful last season.

Aurier however has played consistently poorly since he signed, and seems incapable of learning from mistakes. I can totally understand why people are giving him stick, especially when we have KWP knocking on the door.

It's only the first game of the season and a disrupted pre-season. I don't know how anyone can draw much from this game. I do agree that Aurier was poor and should do better (especially as KWP was MOTM in this same game last season). But a few key injured players to return soon to add the depth. Then bring Trippier back in for Aurier with Alderweireld for Sissoko would suit us a lot better imo.

We need that extra assurance in defence and I think 3 at the back brings that. Plus Moura was always coming inside essentially playing as a 2nd forward which left us exposed down the right. So wingbacks allow the likes of Eriksen/Moura/Son/Lamela to play in those central areas where they're most effective.

We were very lucky to go home with 3 points. Why on earth Sissoko could play 90 min is beyond everyone.

I am no Sissoko fan, but again it comes down to options.

Just like Kane playing another 90+ when unfit.

Said it all transfer window, our Starting XI is awesome but our squad seriously lacks quality depth.

1 to 11 title worthy.
12 to 25(?) maybe with the odd exception granted, not really top 6 quality.

It’s hard to improve on Kane and Eriksen but it should have been doable to improve on Sissoko.

We haven’t had a game changer on the bench for a long time. When plan A doesn’t work rarely has a sub come on and turned a game for us.

Are most really wanting him gone? Not sure thats true.

Yes, don't think it's so much about wanting him gone. More that people see the need to sign others to replace him, partly for now and certainly for the long term

How aurier gets picked instead of kwp is beyond me

Can't help but feel for him. Last season, he plays a fantastic match in this same fixture, and gets himself a well-deserved MotM. One year on, he's sitting on the bench in the same stadium watching someone play who is clearly only getting the nod ahead of him because he's more physically imposing.

Now, credit where due as Aurier's cross for the winning goal was nothing short of superb, but I think that single kick of the ball will be his saving grace as otherwise there would simply be no logical argument to keep him in the side over KWP or a returning Trippier.

It may well have been a bad performance, however if you can come to Newcastle with a tired team and take three points it has shown some character and resilience. It bodes well knowing that when we drop below par we can come away with the points

Both sets of players looked knackered with 15 minutes to go. Fair result. We deserved the win even though the barcodes tried hard. Can’t see where their goals are going to come from. Could be another long hard season for them.

They look like relegation contenders to me

Is it? We sold our RB and bought a new, higly regarded RB from a top club in Europe.

Really? I already knew all about him in his PSG days...rash, positionally poor,a accident waiting to happen.Thomas Meunier is who we should have bought although he's probably unavailable

Great result today.

Think everyone played reasonably well, Verts and Dele were excellent. Kane looks knackered again but I honestly can’t remember the last time he didn’t look knackered for both Spurs and England.

Shame Lamela wasn’t fit as I really liked us last season when Kane was injured and Coco and Son played in a sort of fluid false 9 system. Hopefully Poch manages Kane well enough throughout the season. We have options and there’s no need to put him through 90mins every week.

Well, we wobbled our way over the line with quite a few looking like they were running on fumes. Pretty sloppy performance all round and a few players looking like they need a month off. 3 very welcome points in the bag though.
