Sissoko is just not a very good player we can all agree with that. Its sort of the opportunity cost deal here. Its what he doesn't give us that another player could, if that makes sense.

He is not that bad he has a lot of good points as well, strength, stamina, pace, tackling, versatility.
Would I pick him in the first 11 if we had a fully fit squad? No but that doesn’t mean he is not a good squad player for us.

Damn the transfer window has turned alot of you into miserable shits.
You'd think Newcastle thrashed us 5-1 again.

Man United, arsenal, Chelsea and the greatest team in mankind's history couldn't win at St james' last season and we just have again on the opening day when they're super up for it and we are very unfit in several cases.

Not a great spectacle at all, we had chances, so did they bit overall we were better than them as the stats confirm

This needs to be posted on every page of this thread. Yes, I’m a hater of the window but it’s time to focus on the present. St James, Old Trafford, the KOP, and The Bridge are just never easy for us. They never have been. Points are points. Count how many of our players made the WC semi’s.

This is the type of win that title contenders learn to grind out. If anything was learned today, up and over to Dele needs to be something we rely on more rather than feeding to Kane.

I truly think he offers nothing other than being able to run fast. He fouls, a lot so don't think he's a good tackler. He's versatile in that Poch plays him in a bunch of different positions but he isn't good at any of them.

Let's be honest when the whole team is fit he shouldn't make the bench. Winks/Dembele, Wanyama/Dier, a CB, a full back, Lamela, Lucas, Llorente and a GK.

I actually thought it was an entertaining game and luckily for us the bar codes only hit the bar when scoring seemed easier. Overall I'm very happy with our first win of the season against a not too shabby opposition.

I wouldn't say we are title contenders but I agree with you it's not a bad habit to have winning when not playing at your best, I was a bit concerned that if we had lost the crowd may have turned on Mr levy which in turn puts extra pressure on the team thankfully it never materialised.

We were lucky today with the woodwork for once; and must be thankful for Lloris for the win. We are a very, very tired side. Hope another week's training can improve us by at least 50%.

Can’t complain with the 3 points, especially away against a determined Newcastle side.

Nowhere near our best though, which is to be expected in the first game of a season where most of our important players only came back to pre season training on Monday.

Does Kane need a rest? I feel this is abit of a fallacy... he plods around the pitch at the best of times. It’s his lethal finishing as opposed to his all round game which gets the headlines.

Many a time I’ve heard Kane looks off pace, clumsy, or in need of a rest, only for him to bag one or two.

I think some people on here like to over analyse. If you were to look at Kane’s best games, it’s not because of his general play, it’s because he’s scored.

I think a few are too results orientated here.

He's definitely not at peak performance, that's clear. But I agree that it is over analysed by people. We keep hearing "he was rushed back too quickly from injury, he's not effective" yet he got 6 goals and 1 assist in his last 7 games of last season after being "rushed back".

When the team creates multiple chances for him in games and he starts squandering them, then you can start to question him. Against Newcastle, like at the World Cup, he barely had a sniff of a chance.

I normally would agree as he plays well, is in the game and his passing is amazing but I thought today he wasnt at it at all.
The ball was bouncing off him rooney style and he lost possesion a lot.
That said we have no option so he has to stay on imo.

Kane just came back from holiday, he doesn't need to rest ffs lol

He just needs more match sharpness which is expected, few more matches and he'll be up to speed.

He has a 3 day old baby. When my daughter was 3 days old, I was so tired I was trying to make coffee in a cereal bowl.

All the money in the world doesn't stop a new born baby from waking you up multiple times a night.

When they had their first baby he scored a Hat Trick against West Brom.

He just needs more matches to get match fit.

Disagree with that bit about his best games. His best performances, individually and for the team, have been when he is all action, roughing up defenders, running channels, clever movement, decent touch, picking passes, hurtling about pressing and making tackles, regularly in goal scoring positions, and so on. Goals come on top of that, they aren't the be all and end all - who is the one just focusing on results/output?

It is not all about the team feeding him, as a focal point No.9 he has to play his part to the benefit of others too.

His work rate and overall sharpness, in all the facets I mentioned above, are way, way down in the last few months. The fact that he's good enough, as is the team most weeks to supply him, to still notch some tap ins etc. and sniff some goals out is appreciated but also by the by. We (as England did eventually) will need more than a (very good) poacher. Today we got away with it when under the cosh and needing someone up top for the ball to stick to and to help give respite and drag us up the pitch we got away with it, other times we wont. And just in general, I want to be back watching all action Kane rather than this subdued version.

I don't think it's over-reacting to have some concern, this pattern of rather sluggish all round performances have been going on for some time now. I don't know if the solution is more games (not convinced) or he needs a rest, but I want to see something change and him back firing on all cylinders.
