3/4? That's ridiculous. Dominated the first half and in a second half on the back foot we still only conceded two meaningful chances, while Dele and Sissoko also both had great opportunities to put it beyond doubt. It wasn't our best but it certainly wasn't awful, albeit there were a couple of poor performances in there. We still had 60% possession, a couple of hundred more passes and equal shots (with 3 more on target), so to say we were awful for 3/4 of the back is nothing short of mental.

You Sir are very easily pleased.

They hit our woodwork twice. Every unchallenged through ball from their CM caused panic.

Dominating possession against a very poor side does not make our performance good.

However we cannot make that assumption until they face another Premier League side? What happens to your assumption if Newcastle win the next fixture 3-0?

Yeah it was a real worry, not to mention when their Chelsea loanee (forgot his name) was free on the left and Aurier was in the middle of the pitch. To me Aurier is just a mistake waiting to happen. I'm fine with him filling in when needed I guess but I just don't trust the guy.

I like Davies but I'm not gonna lie, I still much prefer Rose. I just find Davies a little tame.

Luckily we have two better full backs possibly 3, I would prefer KWP to Auier however it was a great cross fir the second goal, he gives away really silly fowls and made Dier angry!

Read back through the in-play part of the match thread and gauge if my opinion on the match and performance is accurate or not.

Result aside if people here think that was a good performance then fine, I just didn't think it was.

I haven’t seen the match yet. Was Alli playing in the midfield 3 in a 4-3-3?
He played in a midfield three, but I wouldn't say it was a 433 . Looked like we were playing a lopsided Christmas tree in the first half (it started as a 4231 but changed as the half went on) and a 4312 in the second.

He was icing his groin after he got subbed but seemed his usual nippy self in the first half to me.
He gave the ball away three or four times in the first half and semed to lack the pace to get behind defenders. I thought he would be in better condition as he did’nt have a world cup run. I guess I am expecting to much.

Personally, i'm delighted with the 3 points. You could see the rustiness in the squad (which is par for the course on first day of the season) but we managed to grind it out. We rode our luck, but if their keeper wasnt on form it would have been more comfortable. But we're off the mark at least! Kane is nowhere near match ready which is expected, and i hope he's given minimal minutes v Fulham.

Going to SJP and coming away with 3 points is hard. We smashed it without getting out of second gear. COYS

It has already become one of the eternal mysteries of the universe. When we’re finally reduced to carbon, floating lifelessly across space, sentient alien beings will tut each other and say, “Why the fuck did they not buy another central midfielder?” And other sentient alien beings will simply shrug their shoulders, and the more passionate of them will weep a single sentient tear

That was brilliant.

A good 3pts considering several players are way off par. Not the best performance but we're much better are getting results over the line in spite of it these days. I worry about Kane, he's playing too much football imo, the guy is fatigued and needs time to regain, I thought he should have been taken off at 60 .

We didn't play that well, which may have been expected given the squad circumstances

That said, a lot of our problems can be rectified Vs Fulham (Trippier back in, Dembele starting)

Once again we also saw how good our players are, compared to other teams' players. Football is a game of fine margins, where you have to take your chances and capitalise on your luck. Newcastle didn't have the quality to capitalise on their luck, but we had the likes of Dele, Jan and Lloris to capitalise on ours

Anyway, on to the next one...

Happy with the win. It gives the players another week to get up to speed. I would imagine that Fulham at Wembley will be fairly similar.

There is a nice 9 day gap between the Fulham and Manchester United games too. Hopefully that gap will give us a chance of being able to compete successfully with Man Utd.
