That's a ridiculous exaggeration, mate. In the season we should have finished 4th, I can remember the Sunderland one and the Arsenal one as the stand-out mistakes that were definitely his fault. Yeah he gives the ball away, but so did King, Dawson, Lee, Davids, Jenas, Carrick, Lennon, Tainio, Defoe, Keane, Mido - just about everyone. Especially that **** Ziegler.

Stalteri was absolutely hounded by people on this site as was Lee - when if truth be known they are two of the best fullbacks we've had in recent years. And with those to in place, we had one of the least leakiest season's we had.

So despite the [misguided - IMO] view that he's a bit of a lame duck, he's actually been a very astute purchase (Bosman) and nothing but a complete professional and faithful servant to the club.

Which is surely the most important feature of being a defender - especially a full back. Positioning. That and knowing when to get rid of it and knowing when to try and play a pass. Chimbonda notoriously hangs on to the ball for far too long and has easily made more 'marking' and 'positional' errors that have cost us goals than Stalteri - I'd suggest it was close to double.

I don't want that from my full-back though. I want him to be able to stop the opposition putting balls in the box, being able to cut inside with ease and generally being unmarked.

The rest is repeating what I've already covered. He is a cult hero - rightly so. He came up with that critical goal that gave us bragging rights; and is more often than not a 6 to 8 out of 10 player rather than Pascal 3 to 9 out of 10.

I am not a chimbo fan in any way. I think that Lennon played far better in front of Salty than he does in front of Chimbo and that his pissing about on the ball really affects our fluidity.

I also remember Salty putting Robben in his pocket at the bridge last season to such an extent that Robben must have passed backwards more often than the All Blacks.

When he is on his game he is a far better defender than chimbo and is also a more willing runner.

I would go with

Robbo

Salty Dawson Chimbod Bale

Lennon JJ Zokora Steeeeed (MVP so far)

Keano Berbo

Ziegler was awesome!

You're either being a WUM or a bit of an idiot for idiot's sake.

He wasn't. He got farmed out. It was a good thing.

Anyway - he's not here now and this is about out back line tonight which I think will resemble:

Bale --- Chimbonda --- Dawson --- Stalteri

Sorry, replace 'will' with 'should'.

Ziegler was awesome when we beat Everton 5-2 on New Years Day.

Now you want Bale at RB and Stalteri at LB? You've really lost it now.

You really don't need to be that much of a twat.

Just on my way out so can't give a detailed response but to cover the main points...

In my opinion, Salty gave the ball away more than any other defender we have. Not by kicking it upfield to the opposition, but either giving someone a hospital ball 5 yards away or literall handind the ball on a plate to the opposition within his own half. I kid you not my smurf friend, 3 or 4 worrying mistakes a game. Watch any match he's played over again and i reckon i'll be proved right. Obviously he's had a few good matches for us but he's more uncomfortable on the ball than any other player in the team in my humble opinion.

Stalteri was absolutely hounded by people on this site as was Lee - when if truth be known they are two of the best fullbacks we've had in recent years. And with those to in place, we had one of the least leakiest season's we had.
YPL is quality. Hardly ever gets beaten and his reading of the game is exceptional. I will agree he is our best LB in recent times. Salty is at best, an extremely average RB. It's only cos we've had shit full backs throughout the years that he may seem better than what we've had, which he probably isn't anyway.

So despite the [misguided - IMO] view that he's a bit of a lame duck, he's actually been a very astute purchase (Bosman) and nothing but a complete professional and faithful servant to the club.
Agree.

Which is surely the most important feature of being a defender - especially a full back. Positioning. That and knowing when to get rid of it and knowing when to try and play a pass. You don't want Chimbonda to be great in the air? You don't want him helping out in defence during the numerous set pieces we give away during a match? Positioning is important, but Salty might be good at staying put but unfortunately it doesn't mean he's good when he's there. I don't fear too much when someone's running at Chim, whereas i always feel Salty will be beaten.

I wouldn't agree on average that Chim has cost us more goals that Salty. Overall yeah, but that's cos Chim plays more. Chim regularly cuts out crosses with last ditch tackles, he's without doubt our best RB in recent time. Like i said, there's a reason Chelsea were after him.

My main point though, is that while being a true pro for us, Salty isn't a very good defender imo.

Dean Marney was better than him in that game. Where's he again?

Not for me. Marney only got all the praise because he was more unknown and scored one more goal than Ziggy. Ziggy was the best player on the pitch that day in my opinion.

Ziegler might have been decent in that one game but he just wasn't consistent. Part of that was due to the fact that he was just too easily shoved off the ball (in fact I think someone could fart in the East Stand and he'd be blown off the ball). So the kid had plenty of talent but just couldn't deliver it in a hurly-burly league like ours, and therefore he has gone off to ply his trade where he won't get bullied quite so much. I think the right decision for him and spurs was made so good luck to him.

I reckon Lee should start rb, reckon it will be a back 4 as I think Aab like to play down the wings, would consider playing zoko at rb and thudd in the middle.

Why?

He has not even made the bench for Ramos and has been shocking in the ressies, just like he has in the first team this season.

He would struggle in the championship to play as a centre-mid in a 4!
