Harry Redknapp has declared that Tottenham's top stars like Luka Modric and Aaron Lennon are not for sale at any price this summer.

Liverpool showed an interest in Lennon, who has been outstanding in recent matches, during January, and are expected to test Spurs' determination to keep the 21-year-old when the season ends.

Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus are also keen on Croatia playmaker Modric, who has generally thrived under Redknapp's command after an unimpressive start under former manager Juande Ramos.

Spurs fans have come to dread the summer after watching key men Michael Carrick, Robbie Keane - who rejoined the club from Liverpool in January - and Dimitar Berbatov all leave White Hart Lane in recent seasons for clubs involved in the Champions League.

Yet Redknapp has vowed to change this policy.

He said: 'We have some good players here, and we are going to keep hold of our best players.

'There is a lot of talk about one or two leaving, but we're not going to be selling any of our best players in the summer - that is for sure. We will keep them here, because the chairman, Daniel Levy, wants to hang on to our best players.

'It was just one of those things last year, because Berbatov wanted to go and Robbie also went, but we have to make sure the best ones stay here.'

Redknapp needs Modric and Lennon to be at their best on Sunday, when Spurs - who are only four points above the relegation zone - face a tough test at fourth-placed Aston Villa.

If liverpool want lennon I'm certain levy will let them have him for the right price...maybe spurs's take an average youngster off them on a season load deal in return...

I swear if we lose any top players we will officially be a feeder club.
  3. Bilko
Assuming we stay up I don`t rate our chances of hanging on to either of these two-although Harry has a good record of hanging on to key players.

Maybe we could sell him to Newcastle and get Charles Insomnia like you suggested in the summer.

Both are still young and on long term contracts. There wont be a problem keeping them both.

    For now.

Hope this is true. Our prospects for improvement next season depend on the present squad and Harry staying together and building on the positive aspects of this season and Modric and Lennon are the two brightest spots.
If we stay up then Harry won't leave and nor should he. Otherwise we're off on the merry-go-round again, new players, new staff new tactics and the whole 'gelling' process again.
With the defence much better, Ledley playing more often, Dawson back to form, Woodgate a major force and plenty of cover at the back we could be on the up.
Just needs Bale and Bentley to find some form and for Palacios to continue to make the midfield more solid and we are more than half way there.
Losing any of our better players is a signal from Harry that he has eyes only on midfield safety.I believe he has more ambition for himself and us than that.

I'm not sure that Levy still has the final say in the matter. My understanding is that he has delegated the decisions about which players can be sold to Redknapp, as part of the deal that permitted Harry to take over the traditional manager's role, including the Director of Football's responsibilities.

Obviously, Levy's ownership interest in the club means that he can overrule Harry and sell whomever he wants, but not if he wants Redknapp to stay at the club. It would be the equivalent of telling him that his contractual terms are bog-roll. No, I think that, if Harry tells Daniel the same thing that he's telling the Daily Mail, those players are staying.

    For next season, at least.

Maybe, possibly, could be, please, please, please, perhaps we can have a summer where we keep our top players and sign a few key players so we will actually prove to be stronger next season. What a lovely thought. Whatever I'm on I hope they refill the bottle!

 That is so true, we never add the the squad just spin the revolving door and see what we are left with.

I actually think that Harry will put a stop to that because he was complaining about the size of the squad when he first arrived so you'd have to think he would want to add to it rather than ships some out and bring some in, unless of course he is replacing dead wood with with better quality.

I would think arry would want to keep pretty much all the starting 11, the only ones that might be in trouble would be Pav and Jenas.
  14. JoeT
As has been more-or-less agreed on another post today, Pavlyuchenko will probably get to stay next season, with Bent moving on.
Our midfield, we all hope will see Lennon and Modric stay, along with Palacious and Huddlestone.....and I suppose (sigh) Jenas. If Liverpool want either Lennon or Modric, we, imo should not even think money deals, but player swaps. They have some good midfielders we can go after! (tongue in cheek).....Gerrard for Lennon and Alonzo+Mascherano(sp?) for Modric!!
  15. dickyid
Crikey you're asking wheeler dealer Arry to be the man to stop the revolving door? Oh the irony..

Personally I think it will be down to the players to decide whether they stay or not. If Barcelona or Man Utd come calling for Modric do you think he'll stay? Not a chance and there's nothing Harry or Levy can do if the player reacts like Berbatov did.

In an ideal world we should have stuck Berbatov in the reserves until his contract and career was finished and sent a message out to players that they do as the club says. But that's easy for me to say, I'm not the one paying £60k wages a week for a player to sit in the reserves and be worth nothing when you can get £30 million and be shot of him.

So it will be the players or decide in the end.

I can't see a top 4 side picking Lennon until such a time that he can cross a ball regularly. Imagine Lennon crossing a ball like Beckham, then we would lose him!

Spot on goug ,brave words from Harry, but reality is that players have the last word on their destination.contracts doesn't mean any thing any more in EPL.Berba's sulky moods and his refusal to participate in games for Spurs,Keane's demand for a transfer to Liverpool,Bellamy's withdrawel from his team and refusing to play unless traded to Man city.
  18. JimmyG2
Modric is on record as rejecting talk of moving with the words 'I've only just got here', whatever that is in Croatian. He will almost certainly be with us for another season and it up to us to make use of him and threaten the top six.
Otherwise he may well do a Berbatov, or a Keane,or a Carrick or whatever.
  19. nferno
modric, lennon, gio, taarabt, and palacios are the future of our club, keeping them here is imperative.
