Not the time to panic....but still a cause for concern

Ok...so we're all angry and disappointed by last night's loss and the fact that we're bottom of the league...BUT it is only 4 games in so for people to start talking about relelgation is frankly ridiculous! Ramos is without doubt one of the best coaches in the world and so we have to stick by him. The difference between him and Jol at this stage last season was that MJ had essentially the same core of players as he did from the season before (finishing 5th) and we were still losing.

Now there's no dispute that we've had a shocking start and far from it being an excuse, the bottom line is that losing your two best players from last season & the best striking partnership in the league, does not help anyone, whether it be the manner in which it was dragged out and so affecting the club as a whole or the fact that their loss to our team and style of play on the pitch is huge, either way, it's become a real problem and something no other side in the league this season has had to face. The facts are that we DO have a whole new crop of players, a new strike force, pretty much a whole new midfield so as Ramos has stated, we ARE behind in our preparation....we shouldn't be but we are so there's no changing that.

I won't lie, I'm seriously worried but only because I hate seeing us where we are, I don't honestly believe for a second that we won't turn it around and that's how we would all feel if we stopped for a second and really looked at the talent in our squad. The question now is simply WHEN will we click as a unit cos I felt it had started at Chelsea last time out and in all honesty, the international break was probably the worst thing that could have happened to us at that point. We've lost all momentum and we'll now need to use the Uefa & Carling cup games to re-establish it. For some teams, 7 games in 20 days would be a problem but for us it has to be a positive, the quicker they come, the better!

Having said all of that, I still have a rant to get through and that is this. It NEVER should have got to this stage! As fans, we ALL know that our biggest problem last season was conceding goals, not scoring them, yet the majority of our signings have been essentially upgrades to our attacking options when it should have been at the other end!! Since we sold Michael Carrick we STILL haven't replaced him and I find it simply baffling that to this day we continue to almost ignore what has long been the most underrated position in any team and what we have been crying out for! Aside from when King and Woody play together, our back line looks as suspect as ever and every time Villa poured forward last night I felt like they could & would score! How we didn't buy more defenders, with genuine experience, is truly beyond me!

Possibly the most frustrating thing though, is the mystery surrounding Ledley King....quite honestly, as fans we have a right to know whether our club captain is crocked and IF he can only play 1 in every 3 games then his career is over and I can't tell you how much it hurts and upsets me to admit that to myself. Ledley King is and has been a wonderful talent for this club but we cannot keep deluding ourselves that IF (and that's a big IF) he is not going to be able to play regularly anymore then the club and the player need to move on and he needs to be replaced by a quality centre half..........NOT Michael Dawson, who as much as I like, he's simply not at the level we need to sort out preventing the goals flying into our net! We need to be told the truth and NOW!

In conclusion, I remain cautiously optimistic that things will turn around soon enough but that does not escape the fact that SOME of the decisions the club has made over recent months have been truly awful and has made me start to question if we really are in the best hands going forward. I really hope we are cos I think Levy has done a good job in many areas and I'd be very disappointed to see all that go to waste if this season can't get going!

Nice article all in all, apart from this bit. There is still very little from his whole career to label him one of the best coaches in the world. As a Spurs manager, the jury is still clearly out.

agree with pretty much everything. interesting thoughts on King.. it is a tough situation for all involved, but yea we need a dependable experienced CB ahead of Dawson in the pecking order, and a call needs to be made on King sooner rather than later. i truly believe tho that we tried to get someone in, same with the DM position, but if the right players arent available its better not to waste the money.

Definitely agree on King. If he can play, he should be playing. If he can't take playing more than once every few weeks then he should retire. I love the guy but if you can't play, don't.

I believe that DC is the biggest problem we have as he is the one in charge of tranfers essentially. If you look at those transfers over the last few years the one thing that strikes me is that he does not buy the players we need, where is the left sided/winger midfielder, where is the CB (I thought this was gonna be Corluka - but he played RB last night?), where is the experienced CM. Where is the experience going to come from - remember Davids? Past his best but did a good job for us.

I see what you mean but you would arguably say that he's considered by many to be one of the top coaches in europe and so after that u can easily include brazil and argentina cos there aren't that many big name coaches over there right now......at least not that I've heard of....so that's why I said it :)
