EDGAR DAVIDS is set to follow David Beckham to America - after going AWOL at Tottenham.

Dutch veteran Davids, 33, is having negotiations with Major League Soccer club FC Dallas who are managed by former Arsenal midfielder Steve Morrow.

They are willing to DOUBLE Davids' current £50,000-aweek contract with Spurs as the former Ajax and Inter Milan star is still one of the most recognisable stars of European football.

But it comes after Davids had a spectacular falling out with Tottenham who have told him to go and find himself a new club during January's transfer window.

Davids, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has not played since Tottenham's Carling Cup win over Southend on December 20 and has rarely been seen at the training ground since.

Famous for his pitbull nickname and wearing protective glasses for an eye condition, Davids has become increasingly fed-up at finding himself a bit-part player.

FC Dallas boss Morrow said: "We are actually in negotiations with Edgar Davids. It's the transfer window in the United States now - and if a deal is going to happen it has to be done before the end of the month."

I know we have seen this story already but I think this one gives a little bit more information.

When Davids arrived he was outstanding and an on-field leader. Since his injury last year he was not quite the same player (the scum game being the exception).

Will he be missed? I don't beleive so. If he was still a positive influence on the other players then this AWOLness (which is a word!! even if its only in my dictionary in pencil!) has surely made his position untenable (spelling?!).

In my opinion his £45k per week wages (as I thought they were when he signed) could be better spent giving Deadly Leadly as bonus if he stays fit and plays 3 games in a row.

Love ya Ledders but PLEASE stay fit!!!

    The Yanks'l buy owt lately.

I remember being well excited when i heard we'd signed him, the thought of Edgar Davids at the lane was fantastic, he came wih fire and passion inside him, he had quite a good start to his first season, running at players all over the pitch, his boots ripping up the turf like the wheels of a monster truck but saddley it became obvious that for all his effort his best days were well behind him as his enthusiastic and tenatious nature proved less and less effective, he wont be missed on the pitch and his wages will be better spent on someone who's guna be benificial to the club.

    Thx Edgar, best wishes.

Well I heard yesterday that teams in America have a wage cap, and can only have one player on a massive wage. So I'm not so sure about this.
  5. davidmatzdorf
Why not? Does the Dallas team already have someone on a high wage?

    Salary/wage cap

They may have two above the 'salary cap' ... Davids would be such a player.

What in favour of ekotto? Do you watch football?

Ekotto is a liability, he makes atouba look like dennis erwin! I am not saying he won't one day be a good left-back just that that day has not yet happened and that he is not in the same league as lee.

Davids has never really done it for us though has he ? he doesnt figure in the first team on a regular basis, infact he never has. He wont be missed so i say let him go to the US

Just to comfirm what Pillbug said on his post; each team in the MLS is allowed two players over the salary cap. I watched the MLS commisioner say so on TV today.

    No. I'm a dumbass.

Davids has been great, but the bite he instilled in us last season has now worn off, sadly, and his £50,000 a week must be reinvested in a similar figure, one that could come in to the vacant OM role and possibly captain.

Someone with a real aura about them, who will pull our first team kids into line.
