I find the option to buy hard to believe.

Arsenal apparently wanted one but Real said no, now all over a sudden Liverpool get it when they earlier agreed to a simple one year loan...

Arrogant Wenger probably thought the optional price to buy was too high so cut the deal lol. You can't say it would be unlike him.

By the way, unless Arsenal (and ourselves) buy some players before the deadline, I would say they (and we) are in real danger of being overtaken by Liverpool for the top 4 places, especially if their defense quickly adapts to Rodgers high line. Their midfield and attack look very good.

They still don't have a goalscorer. Can't see them finishing top four until they do.

they really don't. I still think they're very mediocre, and I'd be surprised if they're challenging. Sahin could be the lynchpin. we shall see

Their midfield is unfortunately better than our's at the moment, and Arsenal's, and not by a little bit. If we buy a Modric replacement like Moutinho we'll be fine but we don't know if we are yet.

Hnderson, Downing and Adam I don't rate, Allen is unproven, Gerrard is on the wane imo, and Lucas is coming back from a serious injury and is heavily overrated again imo. Sahin could be the mutts nuts, and I will re-asses then but atm that midfield doesn't look stronger than sig, sandro, vdv, bale and lennon imo

Couple points. First, the change of manager will work toward solving that problem imo. A better coach will bring out the better side of players like Suarez and Carroll (if he stays). That's why I expect Ade, Bale, and Lennon to score more goals/assists this season than last season. Second, they have brought in Borini and are interested in Dempsey, who scored the same number of goals Ade did last season. Third, Arsenal have gotten rid of their goalscorer from last season, and we've yet to see if Giroud and Podolski live up to their hype.

Not convinced that Rodgers will improve their goalscoring by much. Different levels of ability, but Swansea were one of the least potent teams in the league last season. I really don't see Borini as a player that will net them 15+ goals a season, only scored 9 last season in Serie A and I can't see them signing Dempsey after the out roar from Fulham recently.

I can definitely see Liverpool better last season, but not by much - very much a transitional period for them.

You seem to be falling into the Liverpool trap of comparing everything on paper. They do that every season - its never actually the case.

Arsenal's midfield is definitely better than Liverpool's.

I guess only time will tell. The key point is that replacing an incompetent manager with a good coach can't hurt the players who are supposed to score goals. Also the truth about Suarez is that he's an extremely talented player who last season fumbled tons of chances to score. But his skill is very evident and I can't help but think that he will start putting chances away eventually.

There's nothing else to compare on just yet. When we get a half dozen games or so into the season we'll get a better idea of the strength of each team. Also I obviously prefer Sahin going to Liverpool instead of Arsenal, but I'm still concerned that they will be strong this season. Arsenal will be starting with Diaby in midfield this season unless they sign someone.

If Liverpool finish in the top 4, I will be amazed, Rodgers was just about the worst Reading manager of all time and if he had stayed on they would have been relegated to League One. With a weaker squad McDermott made them champions in just two seasons.

Sahin is an absolute plonker. Why choose Liverpool over Arsenal, let alone us?! Their team is **** and if he can't see that and is just going on "club size", well good riddance.

Arsenal pulled out because Real wouldn't budge on the no option to buy clause.

This has only been a saga because of the clubs involved, not the player.

I hope it's because we were priced out, his salary along would be around 4.5mil pounds + a sign on fee either the 2m teslo mentions or the 5m 442tom claims, that's 6.5m to 9m for a one year rental. That's a lot of money when you don't even know what's Sahin got coming off a year of not playing.

That would be a valid point if Rodgers hadn't then gone on to do an exceptionally good job at Swansea. He is a good coach and his players want to play for him which is why Allen and Borini have gone to Liverpool, and Sigurdsson almost did. And Jose prefers to send his own player to Liverpool on loan because Rodgers is there and he knows the way Rodgers works from his time at Chelsea.

The signing on fee is 2m. Had this verified by a jounalist friend and someone who has a source inside the club. We wouldn't of been able to afford it if it was £5m.

Xabi, Arbeloa and Mourinho brainwashed him.:p

And Arsenal didn't "pull out" Real Madrid didn't accept any of their offers and they couldn't come to any sort of understanding over the offer.

We pulled out last Saturday when he made it clear his preference was Arse.

His Reps contacted us on Wednesday to see if we were still interested in him, as they were fed up with the lack of progress between Arsenal and Real over terms as they weren't even close, and it became obvious by Wednesday they were never going to come to an agreement, so they wanted to know if we would still take him as we were his 2nd choice.

He turned down Roma, Napoli and 2 others.

Your Chairman doesn't agree with you considering he wanted Rodgers to takeover from Redknapp.

But yes, he is definitely a gamble though, but anyone we appointed would of been, except maybe Rafa, he's got a very hard job that is going to take several years and a lot of patience, to complete.

Most LFC fans are willing to take the gamble though and give him the time so we'll just have to wait and see.

Which is wy we've approached Chelsea for Sturridge but RDM is being an absolute plum.

A central midfield 3 from the four of Sahin, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas is really solid. The only criticism is not many goals unless Gerrard rekindles his form 2008/09. I think thats why were trying to sell players to raise the money for Dempsey.

As a Liverpool fan, what's your immediate thoughts on Rodgers? I was pretty surprised by the amount of long balls last night, I know it's very, very early days but I thought they would have been reduced significantly even now.

There are nowhere near as many long passes as there used to be. It was a second string last night so its hard to judge. Sunday will be a better indicator.

Its going to take more than 6 weeks for the players to learn Rodger's ways and we have players that just dn't suit the system he likes to play which is why despite our plethora of centre mids he still brought in Allen and Sahin.

Adam, Spearing and Carroll have been given their marching others already as they will never be able to play the Rodger's way and we still need a RW as Downing is also included in that list.

The best I've seen us in terms of Rodger's system was Gomel at home in the last Europa qualifyer. Wee split them open with clever through balls and dinks over the top time and time again pressed them back into their own half constantly. You could see the signs in that game of where were headed.

This season is a right off to most sensible LFC supporters as we are going to need this year to practice and get used to a new system that our players just aren't used to playing, and its gooing to also take a few transfer windows for Rodger's to get the players in that fit his plans too.

Not arsed at all about this season and quietly confident for the future, especially with the youngsters we've got coming through that could fill a valuable gap, in certain areas, like the wings.

Confirmed. Really the only signing made my non-top 4 teams that I think we will regret not making ourselves. Depending who we replace modric with of course

I certainly wouldn't dismiss them as challengers, they played in two cup finals last season and won one of them, I still think they need to improve their squad a lot more.
