You can always count on us signing a player who's going to the next (insert world class player here)...
Taraabt was going to be the new Zidane
Bunjevcevic was going to be the new Beckenbauer
Dos Santos was going to be the new Ronaldinho

Johnny Metgod & Chris Fairclough

They were the respective replacements for Hoddle & Gough

Thats all you need to know

Apart from the annoying fact that Fairclough later won a Football League Title winners medal with Dirty Leeds.

Just running through some Wiki pages and came across Roger Nilsen in the 98 season, a Norwegian defender. I literally have no idea of this man's existence, anyone have anything?

He came from Oldham, didnt he? Think he made the free kick that Dino Baggio scored from against Norway in USA´94, against Erik Thorstvedt. Also Frode Grodaas came to spurs as a sub keeper, but had a couple of games after released from Chelsea.

I had a wondering about this one so I googled it. Dave Beasant had a loan with us back in 2001. Probably sat on the bench as I don't remember him playing.

Didn't know about that. Did you go to Albany yourself? One of my best mates went there, never said anything about that sort of thing going on.
Last derail from me
Watched the match with my cousin in the pub up the road from you actually
Said he got 5 years

This wins. I kinda remember it happening now it's mentioned but ask me half an hour ago and I'd swear it didn't happen.

This thread just goes to show how good we have it now and we should not take it for granted.

Unless some says in years to come...

‘Remember Davinson Sanchez?’
‘Yeah! Started out so well for him until that game...’
‘I hear he runs a Shoe Zone in Sidcup now’.

Nicola Berti and Kazayuka Toda for me. Remember them signing and thinking what great players we had coming in. Barely remember seeing them on the pitch. Vague recollection of Toda in the Kappa kit but don't ever remember him on the ball or anything.

And wasn't Acimovic supposed to be the new Platini (or some other superstar)?

Edit: I've just been looking through 'The Glory of Spurs', written and compiled by Jim Duggan of the topspurs website. It mentions Glenn Hoddle describing his signings Bunjevcevic as the 'Serbian Franz Beckenbauer' and Acimovic as the 'Slovenian Trevor Brooking'. While Brooking might not be in Platini's league, he was still a fine player, and certainly far better than any option available to Gareth Southgate or Slaven Bilic. I guess we can safely say that Hod's judgment of other players wasn't quite as good as his ability to play football himself.

Anyone mentioned Andy Booth yet?

My pal is a Huddersfield fan and we joked about his one game loan at the time.

I then proceeded to forget about it entirely until he brought him prior to our game the other week.

That was a pretty crazy move.

Also, not a spurs player but does anyone remember when Fergie signed a French defender called William Prunier? After initially impressing he came to the lane on new years day only for us to completely hammer United 4-1. Fergie immediately sent him packing to where he bought him from. :D

Rumour has it he played for us but I'm not sure I noticed 90% of the time
He turned up against arse a couple of times though so I guess he gets a pass
