I've said it in other threads but we would never lose the name unless we chose to give it up ourselves.

I have always known Tottenham as a North East London club rather than North London.

It's funny how post codes work, my mums family are all from Hoxton and consider themselves to be very much East Londoners and Hoxton to be part of the heart of the East End with Bethnal Green yet if you check their post code it clearly says N1 and they are actually in North London.

Personal identity means more than techinicalities, and in the same way a third generation Jamaican can consider himself a Jamaican rather than a British man because of his roots (even if he has never been to JA) Spurs will always be FROM the Lane and from Tottenham regardless of where we play our games in the future.

I think some fans worry about Arsenal and W'Ham fans making silly songs about us being Stratford Hotspur....some people care far too much about what other fans will think and say, like those who gave a toss about the whole 'Shall we make a DVD' saga.

Gradually all the myths are being expelled.

Seats to far from the pitch - no we are still building the NDP design

I refuse to support Spamford Hotspuds - we are keeping our name

Costs to much - no its 200m cheaper

I just hope we are preffered bidder.

Just a thought........ If Tottenham is forced to "change its name" (like we would take notice of a court on such a freedom of choice matter), by winning the bid, it follows that West Ham would also have to change their name if they won (to Newham United?!!!!!). But then they call themselves "the Irons" anyway, and they haven't been Thames Ironworks since 1900 (If at all!).

Ok, thought a visual reference might help give some perspective.

In the image below the blue marker is WHL, the red marker is Stratford (not the Olympic stadium specifically but you get the rough idea). Really doesn't look all that far on the map.

ps. Mods, this was cropped from Google maps. Dunno if that is allowed or not......

Yeah, after some consideration, I retract my comment that we would have to drop the "Tottenham" from our name. Certainly no one would force us to.

I have a hard time understanding exactly where the 200M savings comes from. Is it just because all the infrastructure will already be in place? Or is it also because there won't have to be a supermarket, hotel, housing and whatever else was included (presumably forced upon, if they wish to drop it) the WHL project.

I wasn't crazy about the move, but if it saves 200M, and considering the 100M we would supposedly get for selling WHL, and after naming rights and so on, we end up getting a new, 60k stadium practically for free. Only Daniel Levy...

I have to say mate, but that not only sounds petty, it comes across as childish.

Life's full of so many important things to get passionate about, Spurs are clearly one of them, but post-codes?? Quibbles over regional London? You say you'll never change, but I think you will, I've no idea how old you are, but these kind of minor hates are like childhood passions, you think they'll be forever but they rarely last any time at all.

Why would i give a toss what you fucking think.

Way to argue that you're not childish :)

So not wanting to get involved in a long winded arguement after someone calls me childish.....is childish???

I have had plenty of disagreements with sloth and find him abit of a nerd.

I think we are all old enough to answer how we like, we are big boys and don't need telling thanks.....no abuse in my post...

Nowhere near Tottenham? Are you serious? It's hardly the other end of the Country. It's like 5 miles or something. Why would we change our name?

Spot on, I was wondering how many actual residents of Tottenham actually support the team let alone go to the games?

Quite a few I meet support Celtic or Galtasary where as I had a relation who lived there in the fifties who converted the whole family although we live 70 miles away now.

I think when the accountants look at the two bids they might think FA cup 3rd round Spurs v Charlton Sold out in a few hours versus West Ham v Brum major cup semi final 2/3 rds full.....simples.

Stratford is in fact less than 2 miles East of Tottenham. Tottenham is East of the City Centre, Both are north of the city centre. At the end of the day, who cares.

Nearly 5000 people who have so far signed the petition and probably at least double that figure since not everybody knows about the petition. If our bid is approven I'm certain there will be protests outside WHL opposing the move. The location of the club means alot to so many Spurs fans, so please don't say "Who cares?"

What he should have said was, perhaps those people need to get a little sense of perspective about the issue and spend more time thinking about things, weighing up the pros and cons, perhaps doing a little research, and less time jumping to immediate conclusions based on gut-feelings and signing petitions.

I'm sorry but comments like this is are not really helping things!

Some people seem to think its fine for us to just upsticks and move out of Tottenham, and IF and thats IF we are forced to drop the Tottenham from our name so be it.

That is just crazy IMO.

I'm personally against moving and being forced to change our name due to the move, and anyone who thinks this is ok is basically a plastic fan!

We will lose our identity and heritage if this happens.

It's easy to say it won't happen but thats just being naive.

We are about to move into a peroid of change at the club that might very well determine the clubs future for alot of people.
