Impressive goal record on this guy.

Alves' goalscoring record in Europe:
2002-2003 Orgryte 39 apps 23 goals
2004-2006 Malmo 48 apps 26 goals
2006-Present Heerenveen 49 apps 49 goals

Boro , Az, Shitty and fenerbache are keeping an eye on him.

Is there anyone on here that knows a little bit about this guy?
Probably some swedes on here that knows him from his days in Orgryte and Malmo.

uhm general footy?

but as were talking about it, i think he has found his level where he is, and think that he wont be able to recreate his form in one of the big leagues, i have nothing to base this on other though

I've not seen much of him, but from what I have seen, I don't think he'd be a great success over here. €20m seems an awful lot to pay for him, and I think ever hit the nail on the head when he said he's found his level.

I think he's much more suited to the Prem than Huntelaar. They both have similar records, but Alves likes to get in behind the defence, has a bit of pace and can score from all over. Were he Dutch and playing for Ajax or PSV and had Van in the middle of his name, he'd be much more highly rated.

sorry for posting this wrong.
my opinion is that he no more than average. It's easy to score a lot of goals in netherlands. Poor league imo.

And 20 mil euro is a lot of money for him.

It is a bit strange to look back, because this is a player SM have had in our books, and recommended since his time in Sweden with Örgryte.

I saw him put seven past Heracles, but you have to remember it was Heracles. Difficult to say how well he'd get on here, not badly, I think, but he'd be nowhere near as prolific as in Holland. If you think about it, only RvN and Hasselbaink have succeeded as out-and-out strikers here. Is anybody still miffed that we didn't sign Kuyt?

I think the key difference is that both RVN and Hasselbaink and had a burst of pace and strength. I truely believe that many posters judge strikers on their goal record and totally ignore how they tend to score their goals and whether this is applicable to other leagues, such as the Prem. I'm sure half (probably a lot more) of the people who rave about JKH have never seen him play. Huntelaar is different to Kuyt in that he has much more of a strikers instinct and is better technically, but he hasn't the got abiltiy if a RVP, so won't be dropping deep and scoring from outside the box etc, and he doesn't have the pace or strength to be as effective in and around the box in the Prem as he has in Holland. But most importantly, he doesn't score that many fro runs in behind the defence, which in the Prem, is one of the most effective ways of scoring goals. Alves, however, is quicker, a bit more physical and likes to make runs in behind defenders. He also takes a really good FK.

My point exactly!
The dutch league ain't that much compared to premier league, hell even the swedish league is better.
Y.P. Lee was awesome with PSV back in the days cause the quality on the right backs was shite.

I think he would be a good signing for Boro or Blackburn if they lost McCarthy.

Even Man City have been taking a look at him but apparently his representatives have already spoken to Boro about contract details.

he's a striker and has several caps for brazil. that kind of says enough about his quality. when it comes to forwards brazil have an abundance of players to choose from, so for him to be a canarie means he's highly rated by dunga.
