The problem isn’t standing. It’s all standing where I am at Wembley and there’s still a load of ****s. The problem is fans are spoilt. If we’re not scoring goals we’re shit. Sing when we’re winning. And only if the opposition are what we deem to be worthy. Let’s just face it. This country doesn’t have the mentality to create good atmospheres anymore. There’s no hardship and desire or triumph. The closest one club came to it were Palace by acting all Italian and they fucked that up. Ticket prices have forced out the hunger. We’ve paid a shitload, make us happy or else we’ll sulk. Thank fuck for Lucas Moura today having a go at geeing up the crowd. Best 10 seconds of atmosphere all day.
Agree. But isn't it a sad state of affairs when the players have to tell us to get behind them? We've often heard the expression of 'being the 12th man' by cheering them on, yet, we never do it. I was sitting there hoping someone would get a chant going, but they were few and far between.

I agree. The lane certainly got shit in the later stages. I remember noticing more family's (ill get in trouble for saying women) in park lane.
You're right but I don't think our ground was unique in that...its just the way PL football has gone over the last 5-10 years, I think almost every PL ground in the country has seen a change in the match-going fanbase.

You should come to Enfield mate...it's a right sausage fest, you'll love it !

Digging out the fans who are continually treated like c***s by the club.

Brilliant
The OP was just talking about singing and getting behind the team, what's with the digging out comment? I mean do you go to the matches and sit in silence yourself?

You sound like a proper victim.

Classic. This thread was started by a woman - me. And I’m as loud and active a fan as you’ll find, as is my ‘family’.

It was partly tongue in cheek as I know a woman who goes who's a right rowdy thing. I stand by the fact there are too many family's and couples in park lane though.

Everything has softened up and made too kid friendly.

Bloody wimins - coming over here taking over our football!!

To be honest the least singing demographic seems to be longer term male fans who have aged with the club. Usually 35 plus. I must admit to being one of that demographic and sometimes as an older fart it’s difficult to be loud the entire game. I’d be a liar if I wasn’t honest and said that at certain points in some games I’m happy just sitting and watching the football. I also find that fans of 50 plus tends to be the ones most likely to not sing at all and grumble. I really don’t see young families as the problem.

By the club, not the team.

What's the point in going to a live match if you're just going to be miserable? You're spending a ton of money and you're relying on the team to make that worth it, it's silly.

Part of making a decent atmosphere is for us, the fans to have a good time, even if what's on the pitch is pony.

Football has always been for kids as well as adults though. Lots of fans got started on the terraces as kids going back decades. I’ve been going myself for nearly a quarter of a century and I must admit I haven’t seen this “kidification”. I’ve always seen kids at the Lane.

As have I but Paxton used to be the place to go. My dad never took us to park lane. Then when I got older I went over there and could see why he diddnt. I'm not saying stop kids full stop obviously but maybe don't bring them to the block right next to the away fans? Countless times I've seen family's there in games against West Ham, Chelsea etc. It's just unfair on the kids and unfair on the adults who would want to sit there.

I don't really know why that started.

Drums and flags aren't allowed in, unless you're German apparently, and whoever posted that Liverpool fans made more noise than us all game must have missed the ironic cheers halfway through the first half when they actually made a noise, they obviously started making more noise when they went two up. I just don't get this self flagellation, if half the people moaning about it got up and started some noise through the game they might get it going. Personally I didn't meet many fans who were very enthused by going to Wembley for the game yesterday I think we all just want to go home.

I'm a season ticket holder at Boca Juniors, so every time I went back to the Lane I always thought the atmosphere was rubbish - a chant never lasts longer than one verse, long periods of silence whatever is happening on the pitch etc. Same wherever else I've watched football outside Argentina over the last twenty years.

How do you creat an atmosphere? You organise it. Here the barras have drums and trumpets and whatever, but they also have teams of fans leading the singing in each section of the terrace, encouraging the fans around them to sing. And if you're in the segunda bandera and don't sing, you soon hear about it.

Any new songs they come up with, they distribute the lyrics on fliers before the game and then sing it for twenty minutes non-stop so everyone gets the tune. It may all sound naff and orchestrated, but the result is incredible. And needless to say all the best choirs are conducted, so this is what's needed in football stadiums. It's easier to do among away fans and when all stood close together. But sat at home just needs more coordination. If the new stadium is going to have a decent atmosphere it's going to need orchestration. I doubt that will come from the club, so it has to come from the fans. If I was a season ticket holder I'd've been on here before the season ticket allocation to try and get all the wanting to sing SC members to be sitting in the same section of the ground, if a little spread out, so we could organise some sustained and orchestrated singing.

So many people would sing if the people around them are singing, but it's really hard to be the first and run the risk of looking stupid if no-one else joins in. So who's going to take up the baton?

I nominate @riggi and @Dougal for the North stand. Doris the tea lady in the West, the cheese room haters in the East and the 1882 club in the South:whistle:

If I wanted orchestrated, coordinated singing Id go to the theatre...at a football match it comes across as fake.
Songsheets?...Christ.

As pointed out the problem is the type of people who (can afford to) go nowadays.
I'd put money on the fact that the average guy hasn't been priced out of going to games in Argentina like they have over here.

Think I'd die of embarrassment if there were song sheets at whl.

So we have a thread where we’re moaning about the lack of atmosphere at home games, when a fan comes on with, not just a good idea, but one which has been means tested and has been proven to provide an awesome atmosphere elsewhere...

But it’s “embarrassing?”

Who gives a shit if the atmosphere is rocking?
It’s not like the song sheets would be distributed every single bloody game. They’d be issued for any new songs that came up to allow THE ENTIRE FAN BASE to participate. Singing it constantly for 20 minutes would also put out a wall of noise that would be hugely intimidating.

The whole thing smacks of that typical English arrogance, with a large dose of “fear of doing something differently.”

Personally I think it’s a fantastic idea that, if we could get it going, would have NWHL rocking, particularly with the way the acoustics are set up in the stadium.

The other thing about the song sheets is that it enables those visiting fans, so condescendingly referred to as “Prawn sandwich eaters,” to join in. Rather than try to exclude them, include them. They may just turn into regulars if they do as the participation in creating the atmosphere is what really turns the day from a good one to a great one.

We all started off going to games without knowing all the songs, but soon joined in once we learned them, without embarrassment when everyone else was singing too. Orchestrated singing/chanting with the words readily available would, or should, take that self consciousness out of the experience for the first timers.

We’ve never been afraid of something new at this club, FFS our history is littered with “firsts.”

Why not this?
