Outside the area

One of the things I've noticed about Spurs is that we very rarely score any goals from outside the area. In many ways this is a good thing - we're not running out of ideas and just walloping hopeful shots at goal. The vast majority of our goals stem from passing and movement, normally culminating in Keano or Berbatov finishing from close range.

However, it would be nice to get the occasional screamer from outside the box. Aside from Huddlestone against Fulham, I can't remember any goals we've scored from outside the box, particularly compared with other teams. I don't know if this is down to players being crap at shooting from distance (I'm thinking about Zokora in particular) or whether the coaching staff want us to focus on possession and passing, so the players aren't encouraged to have a pop.

Any thoughts?

Because Huddlestone is the only one who can kick the ball hard enough.

Zokora, Keane, Lennon, Jenas, Malbranque, Bent and Berbatov by and large hit the ball like fairies. They are from the "why lace it when you can side foot it" school of shooting.

Jenas could probably do it if he had a go. Berba chooses to walk it home, Keane likes to beat a player or 2, Lennon I've never seen use his laces he always sidefoots, Zokora just balloons it over or wide!

Meh, long range goals are overrated!

I'm sure Lennon scored from outside the area against Wigan, but it did take a bounce or 2!

We rarely score from outside the area, but people keep making threads about it.

We score from outside the area now and then...I remember Arsenal last season were even worse, they never scored from outside the box and always wanted to walk the ball in...this season they've started blasting it from a distance, but they have players that can. We don't have as many...Jenas can place shots from a distance and Huddlestone has a good shot, otherwise only Berbatov, Keane and Malbranque have the ability, if not the desire. In fact, both Berbatov and especially Keane are very good at volleying.

Bale scored a free kick against woolwich but I'd rather forget that game.

And don't call me shirley.

Huddlestone, Kaboul and Boateng all possess powerful shots, but Hud plays DM, Kaboul sometimes plays CB, if at all, and Boateng's all round game isn't up to scratch.

As for Jenas, he's done it before...

How far out are we talking?

Edge of the box? Jenas against Arsenal in the Cup? Huddlestone against Fulham - both outside the box?

Robbo. Alright, it was last season but it was a long way outside the box.

We're not finding it hard to score so it's no problem at the moment, but having a player that can pop them in can get you out of trouble. It makes defenders more wary to sit back if you have a couple of player who can put a decent shot in.

As long as we're scoring! Most of our goals are made well, and with the likes of Berba & Keano on the end they're finished well.

We do hit some from outside, I'm sure it will become more common as time progresses.

3 points, silverware, and Ledley King. That's what matters

Both Bale and O'Hara can give it a good whack; and I believe Hutton also has some venom in his shot.
