We are a step closer to implementing safe standing in England

Source: Football London

What is the feeling here about this? Do you miss the days of standing on the terraces, or are you happy to park your bum on match days?

I used to stand on the shelf and loved it - great memories, but for me life has moved on now and I quite like having my own seat. Its my own piece of real estate in the ground if you like. The problem with standing was that you had to get there early to get a good spot and stay there!.
For some of the younger guys who really get into the singing etc I can see that they will have a different view - might be worth brining in - eg for the lower sections of the South Stand/Paxton.

I think having an area for standing should certainly be trialed, and it would also increase the capacity.

That's not how safe standing will work.
You'll still have a designated seat. It'll Just be specially designed to not be sat on, unlike existing seats which are fairly dangerous when people stand.

Would that be a legitimate way of increasing our capacity?
Yes. The lower part of the new South Stand is earmarked for conversion to safe standing if it is ever approved. I believe that you can get 1.4 safe standing seats for every 1 normal seat. At a rough guess, that will increase the stadium capacity by another couple of thousand.

The people who decide these things have clearly never been to a premier league football match. Otherwise they would know that away supporters stand all game along with the hard core home support. They may as well just approve it and make it safe.

At most away games you stand anyway! "Safer Standing" would give a little more room, and yet increase the capacity.

Not sure, but I thought I read a while ago that it would take our capacity to nearly 68,000???
