Q: Did you always know that you wanted to come to Spurs?
Yes sure. It’s a nice team, a big team and only Tottenham showed a solid interest in me. I had to be very patient waiting for the transfer to happen. Now I am very happy to be here and I can forget the waiting and just get on with enjoying my football.

Q: Do you find it strange that you have gone from being something of an unknown into the PFA team of the year, then to the World Cup and a transfer to Spurs in such a short space of time?
I think I worked very hard last year to finish in the PFA team. It’s important to build on that as this season continues though. I always thought that there was a possibility of making the World Cup, but I was obviously very happy when the manager finally called me into the squad because I had waited a long time to receive that recognition. I think moving to the Premiership did make a huge difference because if I hadn’t
I don’t think I would have made it to the World Cup in Germany.
It was a great experience for me. It’s a great competition and the very best players play in the World Cup. But it is only the start I hope as there are a lot of games for the French team at the moment and I am hoping to go to the European Championship in 2008. If I play football it’s normal to want to play in the international team, win a cup competition and all these things. I worked very hard to get in the international team and I’m ambitious to be successful in it.

Q: Are you enjoying your time at Spurs?
Yes I’m having a good time because I know a lot of players here and so my integration to the club was fairly smooth because of that. We speak a lot of French because it is still very much my first language but when I need to speak English I try to do it the best I can. I’m very happy to be here.
I remember playing them last year, we lost the first game and Tottenham played very well and in the second game we came to play at White Hart Lane and got a 2-2 draw which was a good result for Wigan. The fans here are very good and every game we have nearly 36,000 people watching so it’s great to play here. The team has changed a lot and we needed time for the players coming in to get settled so it was going to need a bit of patience. It doesn’t happen overnight.

Q: What’s the best game you’ve ever played?
I think my first game last season when we played Chelsea [Wigan were unlucky to lose 1-0 to a desperately late Hernan Crespo goal]. It was a tough game – a big game and my first in the Premier League and I worked very hard. It was hard to take but I think it gave us confidence as a team and for me personally. After that we won several games so it shows we had learned and that it had helped us.

Q: Do you have a nickname? What about songs fans sing about you?
People just call me Pascal. I have got a nickname but I’m not going to tell you what
it is. Only my friends know it. If I tell you everyone will know! There is a song for me which they started singing when I was at Wigan, which is a rendition of the Conga.
It was great when I heard it sung by the Tottenham fans for the first time when we played Slavia Prague away.

Pascal

Pascal is a grat addition to the squad. Seems to give 100% in every game and I love the way he gets forward. Hope he scores for us soon.

:)

"We speak a lot of French because it is still very much my first language but when I need to speak English I try to do it the best I can." Sounds a bit cliquey to me.

What a fantastic spurs signing, I think he has improved Tottenham Hotspur more than anyone might imagine. Wouldn't swap our right side for any other combination - even Neville and Ronaldo!

Speaking French at Spurs

Sounds a little bit too much like that mob down the road in Le Holloway to me! That being said he is a useful addition to the Team.

Well...thats modern football! He says he tries his hardest with English and I am sure he does - I bet its miles better than my french...

I thought that it was a nice touch with all the players dressing up smartly and looking sharp for the front cover!!

give him time to learn the language - it isn't easy to learn a second language

Originally disappointed when we signed this guy as I preferred the money to have spent on Micah Richards but his performances and attitude in a Spurs shirt has won me over. He's proved a quick fix for our RB spot and would like for him to gain RB slot for France. His passion was illustrated in the spats against Chelsea and Boro as well as his energetic displays which have clearly projected onto the rest of the team. Interestingly he can also play CB where he covered Davenport after his red card away to Villa this season. I hope he's an integral part of our back four for many years to come.

We look to have strong right hand side. I don't know how Stalteri and Routledge fit into this. I think Gareth Bale could be the answer with Malbranque showing the answer to not necessarily requiring an out-and-out left winger. He is so effective cutting inside (weighing in with his goals and assists) similar to the way Pires operated for Scum. Bale can provide balance on the overlap with his left foot (best in the country?)

It's got to be done!!!

Am I the only one that does this ?
Whenever I'm in a newsagents, bookstore, and so on,
I always discreetly hide the manure, chelski, and gooner mags
and i put ours truly in pole position for all to see.
Is it mental or a Spurs philosophy ?

It's genius, take a bow

Chimbonda and Lennon are excellent individually, but saying we have an excellent right side is a bit premature. They are still learning to work together.

Their overlaps don't often lead to chances. They don't pass to each other enough and they rarely work one-twos. Chimbonda often pulls Lennon too deep to get the ball, giving the defenders time to move a second man over to double-team him before he gets into the danger area.

These are all problems that are susceptible to hard work and development, but at the moment we have two separate threats on the right, rather than a partnership like Beckham and Neville in their prime.

It's mental and a Spurs philosophy.

Obsessive, vindictive and really quite excellent.

Caught myself doing that in the local papershop recently, in fact i just concealed the Arsenal one.

"Who wants to read that anyway?", I thought.

Love that bit about hiding the scum, manure and chelski mags behind ours - what a classic!

Nicely put ny davidmatzdort: Obsessive, vindictive and really quite excellent!

What a beauty!! Love the club; the management and most especially the fans!!!!

You bring up a very good point that was highlighted by last night's game.
I've always been a strong supporter of Stalteri, he bought stability and experience to a weak position whilst costing nothing. Many of our fans only notice his mistakes, not the plus points to his game resulting in him being abused for costing us fourth place rather than applauded for getting us fifth.

Back to the point. Last night he was, again, our main outlet for bringing the ball forward (from defence). He struck up an immediate partnership with Malbranque which helped Steed to impress himself on the game, and whilst everybody seems to recognise Malbranque's contribution they appear blind to the man who was supplying him with the ball.

This isn't an anti-Chimbonda post, Stalteri will never possess his technical ability, but it is a pro-Stalteri one.
He offers other attributes, such as a willingness to overlap, which keeps the right-back occupied so our right winger only has to beat one man.
He will always drop off and come looking for the ball from Robinson, or tuck in and help out the centre backs, these are not the pretty parts of the game but the workman-like ones which he has a real commitment to.

As you rightly point out football is about partnerships, it's a team game after all, and whilst Pascal is no doubt a much better footballer who is very easy on the eye we shouldn't lose sight of other aspects of his game that need improving, those that are shown from our much maligned Canadian.

I think Chimbonda could well be our signing of the season. Love his attitude on the pitch, worth every penny we spent!
