Just wondered if it would be good to have a thread for this and peoples thoughts on it. Everything seems to be going well at Spurs right now but if there is one 'issue' lurking in the future it is surely recruitment.

Paul Mitchell is still working for us but is supposedly leaving in December, a strange time as this is just before the window opens, now assuming he is still playing a full role he could still be identifying players for Pochettino and Levy in preparation for the window but it's a strange situation. I must confess I wasn't too concerned with PM leaving when it was announced in August but since then Son has looked great and Wanyama looks like the best defensive midfielder in the league.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might play out or knowledge of what Spurs plan to do, is it possible Tottenham are still making moves to keep Paul Mitchell? Rob Mackenzie has already left as head of player ID and gone to Derby does anyone know if David Webb is still at Spurs? (I see that he is having just checked)

The argument could be made and it is one I largely agree with that the squad is very close to complete to the point where recruitment is not in truth that important. We need a creative player like Isco and you don't need a team of people to tell you that. Equally all our success over the last decade has been built on good recruitment where we get value for money so you would think we don't want to step away from that and having a group of people who can identify players.

Also it is fairly clear we have a group of players just beneath the first team who we need to bring through (JO,HW,CCV,ME,CCV) so this could well be a reason why we are letting recruitment take a back seat.

I should add here, it is absolutely vital Pochettino gets the system he wants, I'm not saying we need a team of people who work above him.

Anyone got any thoughts?

We need to copy Benfica's scouting model and invest some proper cash in a global network to find players before we can't afford them, as increasingly this is happening to us as we get better.

Is Carter-Vickers so good he's like two centre backs at the same time?

In all seriousness I think it will be a continuation of their work, I think we will continue to make one or two big signings that are necessary and look to promote as many youth players as possible. I think that should we not improve our clinical ability in front of goal we may attempt to sign that player who is the difference maker.

You means Benfica's network of third party ownership most of their best players though the past couple of years have been brought through dodgy agents and third parties. Of course that is ending now there are still some dodgy shit going on there

Third party stuff is a bit of a red herring but I do agree they have benefitted from it in many cases.

However there is no doubt that their awesome scouting networks mean that Porto and Benfica have an excellent record for finding top young talent.

Found a quote to back this up, which is interesting and our scouting has received far less investment as the top clubs over here have traditionally piled that money into training facilities, transfer fees and wages. It's been nowhere near as extensive.

Porto's scouting network is among the most extensive in world football. Their director, Antonio Henrique, says: "We work with 250 scouts around the world in countries that make sense for football because we will not send anyone to Bangladesh. We have internal and external scouts, who are divided into several levels of observation, which allows a player to be viewed by several people. They work with a shadow team, which is a set of players who are identified from various leagues and capable of being hired by Porto."

@beats1 is right, it's not so much about brilliant scouting as offering your nest as an incubator for the third party cuckoos - for a cut of takings of course.

I'd rather we went after someone like Monchi - would be a perfect fit, the guy not only believes in youth integration (or originally was tasked with building Sevilla's) but has also genuinely built up a scouting network that has unearthed some real gems as well some very decent players who weren't top drawer for peanuts.

As much as coaches like Ramos and Unai Emery deserve credit for their achievements with the humble Sevilla, the consistent there and the man who made their success possible is Monchi, whose continual overseeing of development and especially recruitment has kept a club with a very modest budget punching above it's weight.

Monchi knows what a kid eats for breakfast to what music he or his mates listen to.. if there is a 12 year old with talent Monchi will know everything about him.. he would be my first choice for recruitment.. he will have no ends of offers.. if we couldn't get Monchi then (1 Ralf Ragnick, (2 Michael Zorc, (3Christian Heidl

My two bob's worth.

Whoever recruited and got tight wad Levy to part with 30 million for Sissoko should be tarred, feathered, shot and buried under the new stadium and have a plaque marked "The Shyster" nailed on the boardrooms door.

I rest my case.

Fully agree. A case if fraud should be opened. We were robbed.

The issues with work permits is porbably the main reason why english clubs don't follow the Porto/Benfica/Sevilla/Villarreal model. That, and the third party ownership thing.

Sure was

Poch wanted him based on his form for France during the transfer window. Nothing to do with his form for the Barcodes.

The thing is pretty much every NUFC fan, and anyone who watches a lot of football, would have told you what Sissoko was all about. Pisses me off no end that we refused to pay the going rate pretty much all summer for the genuine quality players who also had room to improve then go and lump £30m on a notorious lazy player.....

We should ask Newcastle fans who we should sign next. They seem pretty clued up. I don't reckon Poch watches any football so we should tap these guys up.

He had wanted him since summer 2015 to @JJetset. Nothing to do with his form at the Euros.

I'm hopeful Poch can get him playing how he wants him to. Just like all the other players we've signd it takes time to adapt and then thrive in this system. If its true that Poch wants more say in the transfer system he has to be given it. We need to keep him at all costs.

He will only cost us £30m if he remains here for the 5 years of his contract. I believe the deal has been structured at £6m per season and I would doubt he'll spend all 5 here.
