The point is other than Lovren, they weren't successful

The point was that there is no evidence they have a good working relationship, 2 of the 4 signings were very bad resulting in a huge loss on a £15m investment. They are also unlikely to recoup the transfer fee for wanyama as well.

The team that was great for poch wasn't provided by Paul Mitchell. Their success is based on the fact they already had these players before Poch joined:
Lallana
Ward-Prowse
Lambert
Clyne
Rodriguez
Schneiderlin
Chambers
Shaw

Poch never had to build a team at Southampton, if anything we should get nigel adkins to develop a team for Poch

That's your opinion. Wanyama was good, and has currently been looking very good. So no, its not just Lovren.

The fact that we're trying to get him tells you that Pochettino values him. If Levy was thinking of getting rid of Pochettino he wouldn't be moving for this guy and he's clearly consulted Pochettino.

You're still missing the point. It doesn't matter that they didn't build that side between them. They have experience from having worked previously together. They will have had plenty of dialogue and probably have a good rapport. That's the benefit.

It really isn't rocket science.

Some valid points - but as we need to bolster up out scouting department and Levy is doing the right thing. It far quicker to buy in, than build it.

Lovren is very average - one player the fans use to moan about quite a bit

Sorry if already posted but saw this vid (6:20 - 10:20) about Mitchell and the Saints scouting/analytic team including a black box. :peeking:

There is also an article in the ECHO about some of the same stuff;

Cheers for that. Looks like Mitchell would work with the people we must already have doing those jobs unless he's bringing all those people with him. Although you'd think there must be loads of people ready to do those jobs.

Regarding the black box thing. I'm sure Moyes had one at Everton as well. If anything I bet most clubs have a similar resource. They just don't give it a silly name.

A poster on saints web has said he's left them. Obviously no idea on his validity.

Excellent news. Potentially getting him in with plenty of time before the window.

Sorry have to say TOXIC SPURS is no place to join my friend I highly recommend even the Arsenal then joining Spurs - that is definitely a step backwards until you ave the current inept ENIC regime . This club has taken a massive backwards step.

Saints head of recruitment Paul Mitchell linked with Tottenham switch

Paul Mitchell is expected to be reunited with Mauricio Pochettino after handing in his notice at Saints.

The club’s highly-regarded head of recruitment has been linked with a switch toPremier League rivals Tottenham, who persuaded Pochettino to leave St Mary’s for White Hart Lane last summer.

After days of speculation, the Daily Echo understands that Mitchell has told Saints of his intention to leave the club.

Saints are not expected to make any formal comment on the situation, but are believed to be relaxed about Mitchell’s impending departure.

Though 33-year-old Mitchell was well thought of at the club, executive directorLes Reed has already explained that the system Saints have put in place means that the departure of one person will not destabilise them in any way.

Mitchell, a former Wigan and MK Dons player who has been with the club for three years, is the head of a vast and experienced team who helped Reed and manager Ronald Koeman with the summer rebuilding job.

That team remains intact, aside from Mitchell, and will continue with business as usual.

Saints are confident that his departure will not have any effect on their continued progress.

Mitchell will no doubt be hoping that some of the success Saints have achieved in the transfer market in recent times rubs off on Spurs, who have signed a number of flops in recent years, presumably promoting Daniel Levy to make this move.

He may well also seek to replicate the achievements at Saints in a similar manner, with Pochettino clearly familiar with the way in which he works.

The redevelopment of Staplewood saw the analysis and recruitment department gain significant investment.

They have a team of staff scouting games from across the globe and analysing future signings, as well as opponents. That runs from first team level all the way down to the youth sides.

There is the now famous Black Box room in which video clips and stats of can be accessed in moments, and in which player audits are carried out to assess how the club’s various squads can be improved.

the idea is mitchell will work underneath broomfield who is in charge of our recruitment not baldini!

as i keep saying this notion we have no scouts and are reforming is old news. we have been doing this since just before the summer. we do have scouts these days. the dark days were under avb when we had 4 scouts and were using advisors and data sheets to look at players.

he is on gardening leave from southampton but we cannot sign him until thats resolved beware arsenal are supposedly sniffing about him too.

Meh. What do we do if our results don't pick up, Levy sacks Poch then hires Pulis or some other mug who doesn't like this geez?

He'll be in exactly the same position Poch is in now with Baldini.

And so the BS continues.

By all accounts, this guy sounds really medicore, like a lot of POch's transfer targets (Fazio, Osvaldo etc etc)

Even Lovren, who was good at Southampton is one of the worst defenders in the league at the moment.

Maybe he was so good because of Poch, or maybe he's not good enough to deal with the added pressure of playing for a far bigger club
