I can see your reasoning. I thought Jenas could play well and produce moments of brilliance, but was far too inconsistent. Unfortunately Paulinho seems to be fluctuating between anonymity and being impressive as well.

I too have been thinking that Paulinho is a lot like Jenas.

Both would be tremendous assets in good teams that are playing well. Much like Lampard - their bulbous progenitor.

Why is he being played every single game? What does he bring to the team? How is it possible that he is a regular starter for Brazil? How the hell did he get the 3rd best player award in the Confeds?

It's mind boggling. He offers nothing at all to the team, especially in the last 6-8 games. He doesnt have pace, does not dribble past people, has such a poor first touch, loses the ball easily when under pressure, does not tackle at all, and all he does is jog at pedestrian pace around the field.

I really dont understand how he is still playing? Dembele came on last night and made such a huge difference. Paulinho is a weak link and a waste of a position at the moment. If you want a grafter who runs around the field, tackles, spots lovely passes and gives it all, then Holtby's the man. He can play the PAulinho role. He can play deep as a central midfielder, while Sandro marshals the defnesive line and Eriksen/Lamela/Dembele hovers close to the top.

I cringe when I see Paulinho play. Enough is enough. I hope for the love of Spurs he is dropped please AVB!

People say give him time. Well its almost one third of the seaosn gone, and if a 17illion player needs more time than that, then something is really wrong somewhere.

I agree that Paulinho has dropped off significantly and become a liability. However, Dembele came on against a City side who knew we weren't going to score (because we don't know how) and allowed him to dribble accordingly.

I refuse to believe that Paulinho, Dembele, Holtby, Lamela etc are all(!) shit. They aren't being used right. Up to the manager to find the balance, or he has to go.

he needs a rest. Didnt get one in the summer and he has been getting progressively less capable of doing the things he can do well.

miss timing his runs into the box, half hearted tackles, losing the ball easily, misplacing passes.

He wasnt doing this early on in our first few games...

the dembele and sandro partnership seemed to be working pretty well last year just as sandro got injured. Perhaps it is time to start building that partnership back up.,

motm twice already. Doesn't do enough step overs for people to rate him, also can't sprint really fast in a straight line, we need more of these things.

Mixture of needing to get used to a new league (Thierry Henry was useless his first season at Arsenal - look what happened there) and being used in the wrong position (box to box midfielders don't suit the 2 in a 4-2-3-1).

He just seems knackered.
He'll obviously have to sit out the Tromsø game, and maybe should rest in the United game as well. He's an important player for us, and in no way shape or form a brazilian Jenas as was suggested in another thread.

Actually the Jenas comparison isn't a bad one. Another excellent box to box midfielder who couldn't demonstrate how good he was as he was forced to play a role that didn't suit him (in Jenas' case, as a holding midfielder in a central two).

what I understand now must of the squad losing their form, even Vertonghen for the 6th goal.

when the op refers to the Cardiff goal as not relevant I think he misses an important point, Paulinho made that run into the box and does that regularly, who else does, none of our other midfielders that's for sure.

Paulinho was bought to pitch in with some goals from midfield like Lampard. He's got 2 already, Dembele doesn't pitch in with goals.

he more than anyone needs the right team structure around him to allow him to make those runs into the box and add something in the final third which is where his strength is - I am so much less concerned about him coming good than I am with Lamela who simply looks like a little boy lost

The next person to use the phrase 'knee jerk' should be punished by watching all Arsenals games under George Graham.

Ban it from this forum

As others have said he's played virtually non stop with confederations cup etc and he's just travelled miles to play 2 meaningless friendlies for Brazil. He needs a break but AVB unfortunately doesn't seem to recognise that

This knackered stuff has gotta be BS. Seriously after every game he plays there are people saying he's just too tired and needs a rest. We have professionals within the club who I'm sure monitor and assess a players fitness at the highest level, if he was really so tired that it was effecting his game so much then I'm sure he wouldn't be playing, especially as we have other players who can take his position.
