I don't think it really matters if he's terrible. Looking around the league, most 3rd choice keepers are garbage: Chelsea have Eduardo, Liverpool have Bogdan, United have Pereira and Manchester City have Claudio Bravo.

Can't be certain if im thinking of the right gk but I'm sure this guy was the nuts on loan somewhere, or possibly the club he was at pre soton?

Remember hearing how highly rated he was a few years ago. Never saw him at saints but if poch has worked with him then it's a safeish 2nd or 3rd keeper option.

That's right, Gillingham.

Always being raved about there, whether that is his level or not I'm not sure but he's a back up gk so I'm not too concerned

Why waste £2m on a woeful keeper when we could have had Lopez, a highly rated u21 international for not a lot more. It makes absolutely no sense other than just another example of throwing money down the drain on 3rd raters.

Or....you don't know everything that's going on and Lopez is staying where he is for a reason beyond our control.

But you're right...it's probably that famous spendthrift Levy just pissing money up the wall.

Why waste money on a substandard keeper to be third choice when we've got a youth system producing decent footballers? This seems to go against everything we've talked about recently in terms of promoting youth.

Also, is being a 3rd choice goalkeeper the best job in the world? Get paid a fortune to do absolutely nothing.

I think this is the more pertinent point.

Do we not have a younger keeper who can do the job of being backup to the backup?

Maybe there's a reason they don't want to do that. Perhaps they want to keep the youth team together, and adding the responsibility of being around the first team squad is not something they want for our young keepers.

I'm sure we wouldn't be buying a third keeper if there wasn't a reason to do so, whether that's due to the quality of our youth options or due to something else we aren't aware of.

Wasn't Lopez supposed to cost about the same price as this?
Nope, our option on him was quite a bit more but we still bid £2m. I suspect this guy will be here for a season and then we will pick Pau up on a free next summer.
