i'm not happy with McGee being number two, I am happy with Vorm being number 2. So I wouldn't have wanted the club to sell Vorm to give McGee a clearer pathway into our team, it would have been too risky.
Sorry misunderstood what you were saying.didnt realise you were referring to 2nd choice.

Tbf we'll probably sell Vorm for a fat fee and have this guy on the bench as a willing and able back up

Why the vorm replacement talk...isn't it 100% obvious he's replacing pau Lopez

Some people getting so angry over this.

He's 3rd choice. He's not replacing Vorm and we can't expect him to be Gianluigi Buffon either. For whatever reason we couldn't conclude the Lopez deal so we're bringing him in as a stopgap until next year. He's played 21 PL games so he's got some experience of the league at least.

There's nothing to lose with regards to the youth keepers either. McGee clearly wanted to establish himself elsewhere and good luck to him. As for our other youth keepers they will play if it turns out PG is truly awful so I don't think their path is really blocked.

It's really nothing to get ourselves concerned about. Tbh if we even get ourselves in the situation where he has to play then we've been incredibly unlucky and in that situation there's not a great deal more you can do. Realistically though it's going to be very hard to find a keeper who doesn't mind being 3rd never mind 2nd choice so you're obviously limited in terms of the level of quality you can attract.

When's the last time we used our 3rd GK??
To be honest, I'm amazed we had such a good 3rd GK last season.

I'm not going to claim to have ever heard of him before last night, so I can't gauge what kind of signing he'll be, however, there's a few things being overlooked by some here...

Gazzaniga has been in England since 2011, so not new to English football.
Secondly, he spent last season on loan in Spain (Segunda Division admittedly), playing regularly, so he needs to be judged on most recent form, not historic appearances.
Finally, and most importantly, he was at Southampton during Poch's reign, quite crucially under the coaching of Toni Jiminez, now our GK coach.
So this is not a signing based on some scouting reports, this guy has been watched/coached day in day out by our coaching staff, they'll know exactly what he will or won't bring to the party, whether they trust him or not, and whether his specific skills are suited to our game.

Edit. Obligatory google search does not fill me with confidence. Limited video footage, generally of mistakes. Fingers crossed my original theory above about the coaches knowing something we don't turns out ribbed true. Can't see as they'd sanction signing him if they thought he wasn't much cop.

Didn't know he was the one from Southampton. A poor keeper to be fair, not very competent from what I've seen but if he's 3rd choice it's not like we'll see him anyway.

From the article

"Pochettino is close to a permanent transfer for the Southampton reserve goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who he worked with previously when he was the manager at St Mary’s. The 25-year-old Argentinian spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish second division. The move follows Tottenham’s failure to agree a permanent deal for Pau López, who spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane from Espanyol."

Probably our signing for Monday

I'm pretty sure it is. I just cant put my finger on why the club and itk want it so hush hush. No ones going to gazump us for the Southampton 4th keeper.

Just as underwhelming as our long pursuit for that other 3rd choice goalie Pau Lopez.
Serously what is this fixation in signing a 3rd choice goalie?
Baffling, truly baffling. Especially when we have yet to spend zero on improving the rest of the squad.

Gards said the 'very close' transfer he referred to wasn't Gazzaniga.

Can imagine the medical was pretty short. "Can you sit on your arse for 90 minutes every Saturday or Sunday and some weekday evenings?"
