What’s vorm 33 ? Think this will be his last season.Gazza put in a strong claim to be No 2 . Imagine they will sign a youngish keeper next summer and fight it out for No2.The weird thing is that unless Lloris and Vorm are struggling with their injuries, that could well be the only time he plays for us. And he got MotM and a clean sheet!
No homo, but we do have by far the most stunningly handsome triminutive of goalkeepers ever assembled. Name a better 3, go!!!
Time to give him a run in the side.
It is bizarre that he would be happy to sit on our bench rather than play at a bottom end premier league club/slightly lower leagueGazza is a bit of a mystery to me, not sure his age 26 ? Just guessing. But he looks to have all the attributes. I think a big part with a keeper is their presence, do they fill the goal. Gazza does seem to have that. Obviously was great against palace and made a great save the other night. Not quite sure why he’s had such a low key career.
A very quick google search using his name delivered this:Gazza is a bit of a mystery to me, not sure his age 26 ? Just guessing. But he looks to have all the attributes. The ITK thread is alive with the 'Oh, why the fuck have we got 3 non Home Grown keepers, why the hell did we get Gazzaniga, we might as well have bought someone English cos they never play' brigade and, frankly, I've had enough.
We went through a real rough patch last season. Seven games where we lost 4, drew 2 and won 1. The one game we won was against Palace and Gazzaniga kept a clean sheet and was Man of the Match.
Hurrah for Paulo and all that, but a couple of additional things to note:
If we'd had a cheap, cheerful and let's face it not very good HG keeper for that game - and I'm thinking the likes of Rob Green here who's just gone to Chelsea as their third-choice or maybe a Ben Alnwick de nos jours - and we only draw or even lose that game, then we end the season in fourth behind Liverpool. That's a whole close season of banter gone astray and frankly 'we've come above you seven seasons in nine' is a bit shit if they've just come above you the season just gone.
Not just that, but the failure to win that game would have meant that we went into the game with Stoke with seven straight failures weighing on us, not four. Paulo's role in our win gives the team something to look back to and a genuine sense that we are able to win this game. Without that, who knows where our season might have gone. It's not inconceivable that, had that run gone on a couple of games more, then we'd be looking forward to the Europa League this year. Yes, we came third, but it was a close run thing and it's not beyond the bounds of reason to point to Paulo's role and say, were it not for that, the wheels really could have come off.
So I believe we owe Paulo a huge debt of gratitude and a bit more respect than his non-HG status is currently earning him.
And I know it's rare to need your third keeper, and he may never need to play again, but just one look at Burnley - who lost their first- and second-choice keepers to injury last night about 6 hours after they'd loaned their Under 21 keeper out for the season - tells you it's not inconceivable that we'll have to call on our third choice once more. And I'd rather Paulo, who has Poch's trust, than some other bugger who's got the nod just because they're HG.
It is bizarre that he would be happy to sit on our bench rather than play at a bottom end premier league club/slightly lower league
So we need 3 decent keepers yet the teams around dontI wished I had put it this well when it 1st started to go off topic in the JG thread.
people just do not understand the importance of having at least 3 decent keepers and also hope your youth can cover. not sure why Gazzaniga got the call that day, might of been a virus. most players have kids, and over the year they can bring it home and it spreads like wild fly. next time it could be on an important match that keeps us in the CL, or a semi's or final of a cup.
with us being over on non HG players the only way you include one as a GK is they need to be up to a high standard, and Poch knows his standard as he took him to Southampton. if 1 of the youth was really up to grade, perhaps Vorm doesn't get an extension. yes there might be plenty of good keepers in the lower league that would qualify as HG, but they also might not want to play as 3rd choice when they are playing week-in week-out for their teams and in some ways putting themselves in the shop window if they get noticed ie, Pickford, Hart and I'm sure there are many more over a space of time.
We like many other clubs have fallen foul of recruiting players that don't qualify as HG in our squads, and later on regret it, we now need to sell a few hopefully and start building towards always making sure we have the correct amount to meet PL and CL rules, so we can name full squads in both comps. the many that moan about having 3 keepers that are non HG would be the 1st to really moan if we had to use 1 that was no good and it cost us a CL spot.
So we need 3 decent keepers yet the teams around dont
Im starting to think this is just a tottenham fans mentality but it seems like our fans need to make every possible excuse for some of the silly things our club does.
We had Pau Lopez here, who people said was going to be the next big thing and he was a waste of a transfer.
Chelsea have Robert Green as their no.3, Lee Grant or Romero as their no.3, Man City have a guy no one has heard of as their no.3 and Liverpool had bogdan.
No one is saying we need bad keepers, but signing someone like David Button, who is homegrown and from the club would have been better than Gazzaniga
