@Lighty64 how many Gazzaniga kits do you own?

Well if our keeper could still be Pat Jennings it would be a F'ing lot. the one thing for certain though is at a guess I definitely understand football a little more than some, ask Burnley supporters how they feel with both keepers being injured in to them an important match(y) or should that be :finger:

I rest my case on need for 3 decent keepers and also the hope that a youth keeper would step up.

Burnley are requesting special dispensation to UEFA because of injuries to their 2 goalkeepers (both HG but doesn't make them immune to injuries). a loss tomorrow will cost Burnley the chance of competing in Europe and could also put them in a tricky position in the league by the time Pope recovers, or Heaton being fully fit

Why don’t we get 4 good keepers just in case 3 get injured? Or 5 in case the other 4 get injured. Where do you stop with the covering just in case they get injured?

It’s about weighing up the risk, yes having a third keeper as a youth player could in a very unlikely situation mean they have to play a big game, but is it really worth putting ourselves in a position where it’s hard to strengthen the rest of the squad to cover for that scenario? Not really imo

I'm sure if a good young English keeper that was willing to sit on the bench, if even now if Poch felt 1 of the youth was ready we wouldn't of extended Vorms contract.

with injuries to keepers it's a specialist position, and plus if you get in a situation like Burnley you can apply to the league to sign another through dispensation. if you fall short in any other position on the pitch you have to get players to fill in even if that's not their preferred or attempt a youth. A keeper however much you like it is the most important position to get right, don't concede the worst result your ever get is 1point. it's also most probably the least rotated position and only ever used to sub if an injury occurs.

we shouldn't of signed players like Llorente, N'Jie GKN and thought about HG that way a lot earlier

It is bizarre that he would be happy to sit on our bench rather than play at a bottom end premier league club/slightly lower league

Well Vorm was an established first choice keeper at a PL club, and chose to come to us knowing there would be very little chance of getting the No 1 Jersey. Why? £££

Well Vorm is second choice and still gets some games.. I would have thought a chance at silverware is also a consideration. Gaz being 3rd choice is more perplexing

There was talk at the time he signed that he can't physically play a full season any more due to the injuries that kept him out at Swansea, which makes him both a great 2nd choice 'keeper but also one which needs a good 3rd behind him to take some of the load... and here we are with exactly that.

I think the feeling was Vorm would be off this summer, so he would only be 3rd choice for 1 season

In the future I hope we keep our own produced goal keepers around for the third choice spot. Have two, let one of them be back up and one go out on loan. Switch half way through the season. David Button and Luke McGee would have worked well at the moment.

That said, I'm very happy with Gazzaniga both as a goal keeper and his personality. He has potential to step up in my opinion.

I dont know why you are resting your case, surely it proves the point the other way round.

If you have injuries to your first team goalkeeper you can get special dispensation for registering a new player

Also if your 2 first choice keepers do get injured, in the premier league you are allowed to have an emergency loan for a goalkeeper if the the only available keeper hasn't made more than 5 first team appearances.

Finally, Tom Heaton, has been injured since september 2017. Burnley have had 2 transfer windows to get an extra keeper, which they did after his injury in september they got lindegaard to come in on a free after the window had closed. So really the burnley example isn't valid as they had two windows to upgrade another goalkeeper as Heaton's career is arguably over

My case is just like what happened v Palace, the night before both Lloris and Vorm where struck down with a virus, that doesn’t give you time to even apply for dispensation.

How would you really feel if that happened on the morning of a game we needed to gain a point for a place in the CL, or the next stage of the CL, or a Cup final.

The mistakes for HG was made a longtime ago, way before we new the new ruling for 10HG players, a longtime before Walker, and Rose would want out, or the fuck up with the transfer window closing early and Europe not being in line.

Your all blaming a lack of transfers because Pochettino, not Levy wanted a 3rd choice keeper that wasn’t HG. Get over it, shit happens. the one thing I do know if ever Gazzaniga or whoever our 3rd choice keeper is, turns out to be a hero, I will remind you why it’s important to have a reliable 3rd choice.

Any other position on the pitch can at a push be covered by a player playing out of position, not a keeper. To be honest I’m done arguing this, so anyone else quoting me won’t receive a reply sorry

I didn't see any player thread on him so I'll use this one. I think he had a shaky start to the season (despite being good when called on last year and in preseason), however he's really stepped it up the past few weeks though and looks very comfortable and in command now. The game against Liverpool was sensational. Signing Vorm can only be a boost too, as it's someone he's probably happy to work alongside with, but also adds that little bit of competition for the spot.

Couldn’t agree more. I think his all round play makes him better than Lloris. For a start he can kick a ball.

He also seems much more vocal and more of a leader. I love the way he bollocks the back four and it was great to see him hammering Richarlison and his antics.

And he’s a handsome bastard

His distribution has never been in doubt.m, but there probably have been question marks about his ability with his hands. He seems to be finding a bit of form right now though, decent saves last week, and again yesterday. The defence trusts him and we look better playing the ball out from the back.

He looked really shaky in the start. But like last season when he gets a good run of games he gets much better. He has impressed me again.

That's what I saw in the last season, and that's why i wanted to give him a run ahead of Lloris for this season.

But with Poch, we know as soon as Lloris is back he will play. Mad isn't.
