Peter Taylor took a pay cut to follow his dream and play for Spurs.

The former England winger, later to take charge of the national side on a caretaker basis, joined us back in 1976.

Yet he possessed such talent that he had made his England debut while with Crystal Palace in the old Third Division.

And, as he admits in the latest issue of hotspur, joining Spurs was a day to remember.

He reveals: "I was so desperate to sign for Spurs I took £10-a-week pay cut - that's what it should be like.

"It was an amazing situation to be playing for the club that I'd supported all my life.

"We played terrific football from front to back, always passing it round the team, and scored lots of goals."

And the current Wycombe boss can only see good days ahead for Spurs under Harry Redknapp.

He says: "Now there's a man who should have been given the England role."

His points are, that we need dedicated players who really want to pull on our shirt, and that he yhinks we have a manager that can take us back to the glory days

I wore a white t-shirt and my mum sewed on a number eleven on its back and an old style Spurs badge on the front - I wore it till it fell apart after countless washes to get the mud out after headers and volleys when I was Peter Taylor (On The Wing).

    Great player.

I have a lot of time for Peter Taylor. A genuine guy who did a great job with England U-21's. Could have done really well working with our young players given the chance. HR- Allen- Sherwood- Taylor could be a really good team.
