No Toby is a bit of a joke

I think Vertonghen has had a better season. Both have, to my memory, made just one mistake leading to a goal. Jan vs Everton where he slipped and Lukaku scored and Toby where he failed to cut the cross out and James Ward Prowse scored.

I think Jan edges it as he has had to deal with a longer absence without Toby and he's also working with Davies as his wide player who has been shaky defensively.

I think it's a reasonable team but Cahill and De Gea are questionable. Although Toby and Jan have both been awesome, they've also missed a fair number of games (as has Van Dijk, who I suspect would be in here would be in here if he'd played all season). I think Michael Keane would be my pick to go there. Hugo, Pickford, Heaton and Courtois have all definitely been better than De Gea, who has actually had a pretty mediocre season.

Cahill is a weird one, even sticking with Chelsea I'd have Azpilicueta instead.
They've both played in a back 3 this season so he should qualify for that position.
van Dijk I reckon if it weren't for injury, but then again Rose is there - Kane too, though he's scored so many even in less games so fair enough. Can only agree with those saying Vertonghen is ahead of Alderweireld for this season, injury again.

The way it's looking at the moment my vote for Spurs player of the year is going to Christian Eriksen - but I guess it would always be difficult to compete with the goals and (justified) hype of Dele Alli. Reckon Dele probably should have been up against Hazard's position in the team.

Overall, not that much wrong with the team of the year though, nothing too silly there.

When was the last time we had so many in the team of the season? It's a good sign that the players themselves have voted for this and it is so Spurs-heavy.

I have to say though, how Cahill has snuck in there instead of Toby is anyone's guess. I suppose it's due to the date the votes were recorded but, even so, he's the best CB in the league.

I still maintain this shouldn't be done until the season is over, should be about the season and not the year and that all the top leagues "team of the season" should play each other in a post season tournament somewhere neutral all managed by the manager of the season.

They could make the winners league get a protected co-efficient or extra points or something. Tv revenue would be insane too.

Mane is probably the only player there who could get votes while being out of the team. Pool are all kinds of poo without him

I think this team is pretty fair. Obviously none of us would change Verts and Toby for Cahill and Luiz or De Gea for Lloris but United has second and Chelsea has third best defence in the league so I think it would be unfair not to mention players of those teams. Especially that Chelsea is on top of the table for so long. It's the same with Mane or Hazard. Both has been great this season and I'm sure Liverpool or Chelsea fans wouldn't swap them for Eriksen or Son. It works both ways. Lukaku is an obvious choice. Personally I would swap Hazard with Sanchez. He is pricless for Arsenal and imo he deserves place in this PFA team.

Best defence in the league and a goalkeeper with most clean sheets and you only pick one out of a possible 5 ? sorry I'll have to say fuck off and move on from this.

Best defence, most clean sheets (with goalkeeper having fewer appearances in which to keep those clean sheets) and neither centre back or Lloris is in there? Ludicrous.

Toby hasn't even been our best CB this season, I can't remember Jan making a single mistake this season and his ventures going forward are always entertaining.

Toby is the better player, but this season Jan has been almost perfect.
