Though I'd start a thread to show just what some referee's have to go through during a match. If there is already one that fits this topic then I apologise and ask admin to delete mine...but I couldn't find one. I look forward to watching other contributions...:inpain:(y)

This just posted on BBC news...scary !!

As long as referees are viewed as sub-human by fans, players, and coaches, this will continue to happen. Players are allowed to make mistakes. Referees aren't.

It's unfortunately become embedded in footballing culture nowadays, especially in the premiership, to obsess over referees. If you watch any post match interviews from managers or discussions on MOTD etc. it's remarkable how much time is given to disputing refereeing decisions vs. talking about the actual football. It needs to stop but nobody has the balls to do anything about it.

There seems to be a constant obsession with going over every refereeing decision searching for any tiny error. I agree there are occasionally some bad decisions, but referees are human.

This quest for perfection in everything, as well as the pressure put on referees has contributed to VAR, which is a massive load of bollocks. All it does is prove most decisions are open to interpretation by referees.

I wish we could just get on with the game, rather than tinker with everything.

I am always amazed that whenever a referee awards a penalty the players still crowd around and protest....why ??...I have never ever yet seen a referee say "Oh ok lads....sorry, my mistake...no penalty"...just a natural reaction I know but it always makes me smile.

I have, wasn't it a spurs arsenal game or a spurs united game. Obviously not in our favour...

As a matter of interest, does anyone know what referees do with objects thrown onto the field of play?

Asking for a (Mrs) Friend.

one of the perks of the job. i am sure they get to keep all coins thrown on the pitch. maybe thats their bonus. :D

on a serious note... i kinda agree.... Ref's job is always one where he is hated, regardless of what happens.

Seems as good a place as any - is it just me or are Ref's having some absolute stinkers recently? Not just against us, I mean generally - seems a match day doesn't go by without some calamity decision, and they rarely come alone.

Too much pressure on refs? They feeling devalued after VAR started getting so much attention? We paying more attention to them because the football got a bit dull?

No statto but I'd be interested to see how many "wrong" decisions have been made this season compared to previous.

Imagine being at the absolute top of your profession. A top football referee in all of England. Maybe one of the best in Europe. You work your ass off for 15 years driving all over the country working open league games getting yelled at making 40 to 60 pounds. You slowly work your way up to the football league and finally get your chance at the Premier League. You're one of the best people at your job in the entire country and you maybe make 70,000 pounds a year for a 10 to 15 year window before you're forced to retire around 48 to 50. All this in a league that profited 4 billion a year in 2017.

How to you expect to get the best of the best when you're paid like a new hire at Google with a couple programming classes under their belt?

On one hand, it's a paltry sum compared to the idiots they're supposedly in charge of on the field yet, in the real world, it's a very good salary.
