I’m making the mistake of judging teams after one game. I think I’m wrong. I’ll give it this weekend too. If we beat Man City, we are definitely winning the league!

Not sure why it was changed, it's killed the thread, I think we either have race for top 4 or race for the title.

Don’t think these threads are usually terribly active til later in the season, or until significant points are dropped by someone.

I’ve seen nothing yet this season that has drastically changed my mind on how I was feeling about this season.

City are far and away the best team. It would seem unlikely for them to drop enough points to allow anyone else a serious challenge. De Bruyne’s fitness is probably key. He stays fit, they’ll win at a canter.

Liverpool look shaky defensively and don’t look as good going forward. Think the last two seasons are going to catch up with them. Squad is too small and their big players have played too many minutes. Can’t imagine they’ll avoid injuries in the same way as the past couple of seasons.

We round out a top three, and we’re the most unpredictable. With pre season and no World Cup hangover we should be in a much better position. But it’s hard to assess us properly until we see new players settle.

Arsenal are probably a step above United and Chelsea and then there’s a further pack chasing below them looking to break up the top 6.

Not seen enough from Everton, Leicester, Wolves yet to think they could do it though.

Chelsea and United dropping points means the weekend went as well as we could've hoped for. Now for next weekend we either want Pool v Arse to be a draw with multiple red cards or for Pool to absolutely annihilate Arse, with multiple red cards.

I know we didn't play great against City but I'm even more optimistic for this season now.

I’d be pretty keen on Arsenal winning before a Liverpool win. Some early doubt for Liverpool would be great. And I think we’ll be competing more closely with Liverpool than Arsenal this season. Draw would be best though.

Race for the top 4 or race for the title, in my mind, suggests this is a place to talk about the clubs around us as well as us in comparison.

PL Campaign makes it feel more about us game-to-game so naturally there's not as much for people to talk about because that's mostly all covered in the match thread.

Indeed. And if there is one thing I've learnt since being a member of SC, is that posters religiously stick to the thread topic in their discussions... :cautious:

Defeats for either. Knocks the confidence and might make them have a poor result in their next game. Liverpool grew in confidence last season because they didn’t lose any but one of the top 6 games. I’m not convinced draws help despite the dropped points.

A draw would be probably the ideal scenario; stops Liverpools 11 game winning streak and limits Arsenal. Would however give a lot of confidence to Arsenal. In some ways a routine 3-1 win for Liverpool would leave Arsenal feeling a bit meek ahead of NLD.

Would like to think we'll smash Newcastle 4-0 to keep the goals/points flowing.

It should be spurs premier league race 19/20. Then it would never need changing, whatever happens and we wouldn't have pages of discussion about whether we should change the title or not.

Arsenal’s woeful away form is what kept them out of the top 4 last year. If they start picking up away results this year they’ll get top 4. My first choice would be “meteor”, beyond that I wouldn’t want an Arsenal win.

You'd want Liverpool to win this and expect them to regardless if we were going for top four or the title.

Yup, it isn't one or the other, top 4 or title. Over the course of the season it'll be changing all the time. If Eriksen stays and finds decent form, and Ndombele and Lo Celso settle in really well, I think we have an outside chance of challenging for the title. If say 2 of those 3 DON'T happen, we could well be in a dogfight for 4th.

We lost 13 games last season, I don't see us doing that again, I think we'll be fine for top 4. I honestly think we'll get 2nd and be a lot closer to city.

Hope to god you're right of course - or that we do better than that ?. But on top of the Eriksen issue and the question of how TN and GLC bed in, our back 4 is a ways off peak Walker, Toby, Jan, Danny circa 2016. I guess we're favourites for 3rd but a lot would have to go right for us (and wrong for City and Pool) for us to do better than that. And if things click for Arse and MU, they could definitely challenge us for 3rd.

Tbh I don't think Levy (or Poch) seriously hopes to be challenging for the title this year. They are developing a squad to challenge in 2-3 years, built around Sanchez, Foyth, Sess, TN, GLC, Dele, Son and Kane.

Liverscum and their Rawker fans need to be knocked down a peg or two before they increase in confidence.

Arse bandits will pose a threat this year but they shoudl lose a few more games than those Rawkers
