Very strange, it is a link (which worked earlier) for a letter from Roy Hodgson putting his support behind the project as a perfect place for the England team to stay at when playing at Wembley.

It's letters like that which show how stupid it was building the national football centre in Burton. If it was near london they could just stay there.

Hopefully thfc are charging the fa a fortune for the privilege of staying there.

St George's Park's principal purpose, in addition to providing facilities for a diverse variety of teams and clubs that wouldn't otherwise have access to such facilities, is to be a breeding ground for a greatly increased quantity of qualified coaches who will be superior to those currently working within the English game.

The FA didn't spend £50m odd on it just so that it could house the England team during international weeks!

So it's actually eminently sensible for the facility to be located more or less in the middle of the country - where everyone can access it relatively easily.

When you put it like that!

Anyway apart from the silly England paper, and the letter clearly half-written by us and signed off by the FA (which is fair enough), it all seems like an extremely sensible idea - we can charge other teams to use it (making some cash but also probably helping us out with cordial relations with other football clubs and organisations), it prevents our players having to travel around so much especially before matchday, we save a fortune on hotels and the extra travel, and it keeps the training ground improving and keeping pace with the likes of City, as well as ultimately making the club more valuable via increasing the scale and quality of the assets held.

I just had a Google satellite view of the whole thing and a read of the covering letter - what lives these players lead! Imagine going there to 'work' every day, using incredible facilities and having the most modern and top of the line medical support, amazing food available which you know will be nutritionally perfect for you as a footballer, almost-certain-to-be beautiful accommodation you can use (which no doubt someone else will clean and tidy for you), an absolute piece-of-piss location to drive to every day about 6 feet off the M25 - and you get all this in order to come and get fit and play football with your mates all day, and on top of it all get paid £50k a week for your efforts!

It must be an absolutely incredible life to live - and then once you're finished as a player, you can become a coach! No wonder many coaches/managers have absolutely no patience with the likes of Ravel Morrison and other players who don't work hard and let their careers pass them by - this sort of facility should help players focus on nothing but becoming the very best they can be.

This is the kind of facility you'd pay a fotune a month just to have access to 1% of with a top gym/sports centre. These guys get paid to use it... An absolute dream.

Prince William is the President of the FA, and has been for 9 years now, so that'll be why he's on the top of the page.

Interesting fact: None a single one of the board on the FA have ever played professional football. Not a game between them.

Oh I know, it just seems so typically FA to be so jumped up like anyone gives a shit who their president/patron is. Such a tossy letter, no-one cares.

I am not at all surprised by the second point. I said I guessed as much to my dad on the weekend as we were raging about Jan's goal and that the FA would do nothing about it.

8. Recommendation
8.1. That following referral to the Mayor of London and no objections being raised, as well
as referral to the Secretary of State and no objections being raised, the Head of
Development Management or the Planning Decisions Manager be authorised to
GRANT planning permission

Slightly ambiguous.

Does this mean that referrals to the Mayor of London and Secretary of State have already been made and we are good to go? Or does it mean that those referrals are yet to be made but, if Boris and Pickles (I presume) have no objections, then Enfield are happy to grant planning permission?

Don't think its ambiguous - its been referred to Boris and no objections received, Ditto Secretary of State, and hence 'the Head of Development Management or the Planning Decisions Manager be authorised to GRANT planning permission

Only thing to point out is that this is to be approved by the Planning committee on 27 January (a week's time) which should be a formality, but....

You might be right that these things have happened - and I hope you are - but it is, nevertheless, written ambiguously and open to either interpretation.

Slightly off topic of this thread, but the documentation for planning includes these interestiong paras :.

6.3.23. Five of the starting THFC eleven in the Club’s Premier League victory against league leaders Chelsea FC on 1 January 2015 have come into the First Team via the THFC Academy (Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend, Harry Kane, Nabil Bentaleb, and Danny Rose). Of those, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend hail from Enfield while Harry Kane is from neighbouring borough Waltham Forest. Four of these players have also represented England at youth, U21 and/or Senior level.
6.3.24. There are a further five players in the current First Team squad that have come through the Academy system since the Training Centre opened (Luke McGee, Dominic Ball, Jordan Archer, Harry Winks and Josh Onomah). Enfield boy Josh Onomah was a key part of the England U17 team that won the European Champions in May 2014, while the other four, who all hail from Enfield or neighbouring boroughs, have represented England or Scotland at youth or U21 level. Additionally, five further Academy graduates are currently out on loan playing regularly with Premier League or Football Clubs, including England U21s internationals Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard who have both appeared for the THFC First Team within the last year.

Good to hear confirmation from Spurs as to how they regard Luke McGee, Dominic Ball, Jordan Archer, Harry Winks and Josh Onomah).

The english used is poor of that there is no doubt.

Think it would be clearer if the words in bold had been includede

Presumably it wouldn't only be England who might want to use it, European CL teams when playing in London maybe.

Yup that justification is in the planning documents submitted to Enfield Planning, the quid pro quo for Spurs usimng similat facilities overseas, also tyhe US national team have also used it, and I guess other international sides will.

No having to sort out and pay for expensive hotels for foreign clubs playing on CL nights in London - come to Spurs and have use of the accommodation and amazing training facilities for the day instead. Oh and maybe pay us a few quid in the process.

Sounds good to me. Will likely create a genuine minor revenue stream for the club as well as allow us to form decent working relationships with other clubs and national associations.
