According to our colleagues at RMC, Tottenham have opened discussions with Montpellier defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli’s entourage but have yet to make an offer for the player.

Contractual discussions have however begun with the player who has in the last hours rejected Marseille. Fiorentina remain the frontrunners.

Tottenham have given up on Adrien Rabiot too, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi.

I'm beginning to think that we could have a CM corps of Vidal, Mascherano, Modric, and Schneiderlin and still be after CM/DMs.

This sounds like a load of bollock but were it true it might indicate that MS had gone tits up.

We've had a few deals like this so far, 1 random source quotes our interest, we all shrug it off, 72 hours later he's a fantastic player and then he signs.

Tottenham make concrete offer for Benjamin Stambouli
Get French Football News can confirm that Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer for Montpellier defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli.

A source close to the player confirmed that Stambouli was poised to join Fiorentina until Tottenham made their interest known yesterday.

The offer is believed to be worth €6m. They will now compete with Fiorentina for the player’s signature after Stambouli rejected Marseille.

If this interest is real-who has been advising us about this guy?

Just an opinion...the article did say he rejected Marseille. Bielsa is the current manager of the French team and Morrie's old coach/mentor. Maybe he gave Morrie a heads up phone call to inform him of the players qualities and what an interesting prospect it would be for his Spurs....long shot, but isn't that what friends are for???

Fiorentina, on Stambouli there is also the Tottenham

La Fiorentina fawns over him for weeks, even sent an official offer to Montpellier. Benjamin Stambouli in orbit Viola, true. But the club of the Valley is not the only one on the French midfielder. In the last hours here is the inclusion of Tottenham decided. Expected updates, Benjamin Stambouli in the window. Meanwhile, not called up for the next challenge of his Ligue 1 club. Because the market called ...

I don't see Schneiderlin as a DM. He's a deep-lying playmaker. He'd play instead of Bentaleb, alongside Capoue.

This guy, a proper DM by all accounts, would be cover for Capoue I imagine, in lieu of Sandro. Who knows whether Sandro won the gaffer round with his latest performance though.

I don't feel like this has any bearing on MS. It's MS or nothing for Poch, IMO.

If true, it suggests to me that not only have we probably given up on MS, but we've decided Sandro isn't going to sign a new contract and are still actively trying to offload him - no way we need another DM otherwise.

Schneiderlin isn't a deep-lying playmaker or a DM IMO- he's a bit of both. He's not like Sandro but he's no Modric either.
