You answered your own question to this with the bit about him not playing expansive enough football. If he stays around our first team and trains with Poch we stand a chance of forming a defender that suits us.

If we pack him off on loan to the clubs you mentioned do you think he is going to learn how to play out from the back?

I didn't answer my question in entirety. We still don't know if he can play out from back. I do not want him to be loaned out any club...but to clubs who play good football from back. This includes Hull

Looks already a good Premier League defender. Strong, good in the air, mobile, and decent on the ball. Only criticism isn't off him but Poch's use of him on Sunday - as someone before said, he does not have the passing range or the ability/intention to run forward with the ball like Dier or Vertonghen will (neither does Wimmer, which is why I wouldn't have played them in a back 3 yesterday but hey ho).

I think he is already a squad member, and it is only his ambition on the ball that is restricting him making a full breakthrough (not that I think the fact he is above else a natural defender is a bad thing, there has been plenty of occasions when a defender should have focused on defending first and ball playing second). If we bought a true midfield playmaker, CCV could compete with Dier for a centre back spot when we play two at the back.

Looked composed and confident yesterday. My only observation was that he didn't move the ball quickly.. Always took 3-4 touches before passing sideways. He does however look a good prospect and comfortable with his surroundings..

It's good to see some recognition for one of our youngsters - it's a nice antidote to some of the stuff being spouted in the Janssen thread.

I thought CCV was good. He was obviously told to keep it simple and win his battles and he did that well. Not sure how often he's played in a three but looked comfortable; it helped having Toby back there with him.

At only 18/19 there's plenty more to come from him. Exciting times.

I know Poch likes to keep the pick of the bunch close, but would be very interesting to see him loaned somewhere like Bournemouth replacing the recalled Ake.

Don't really rate Howe as a defensive coach but they play decent football. CCV is already very good defensively. He'd be an asset to them imo.

It also helped that Villa posed zero thread in the final third. He did what he had to do and looks a good back up option.

I think Poch prefers to keep young players that he likes around the squad rather than send them on loan, can't see CCV going anywhere at all.

Given that we continue to experiment with 3 in the back - I can't see CCV going out on loan and leaving us with only 4 CBs...

Pochettino may have very well told him to play it safe on the ball. He didnt put in any long balls but alot of passes he played back to Toby/Wimmer eventually lead to a long ball, so that just shows we werent able to play much out the back through the midfield putside of the long balls. Lets be real, thats what we mostly did for 60 minutes until Alli came in and then really shifted 10' later when GKN came in.

CCV still made a goal saving tackle that Toby cleared and didnt make any mistakes at all. Looked very assured and comfortable defending and even on the ball. Didnt look jittery on it. Was calm, and didnt rush to pass it. He evaluated his options and passed to Toby/Wimmer. But he didnt opt to play the long ball like they did. Overall a very good performance for a 19 year old with only 2 league cup games to his name as his 1st team experience. Think he showed that he deserved some more opportunities. An EL cup tie against Gent could be a good opportunity if he does well again next round...

I think a loan would do him quite a bit of good, especially as others have said if it were to a team that will attempt play the ball out of the back. I think he's proving that he has the talent, but he's getting to the point where more games will push him further. I'm thinking he'll get his chances with the FA Cup and Europa, and then perhaps next year be loaned to get that regular playing experience. With a little bit of experience in his pocket from this season, he would hopefully benefit the team he goes to - a bit of a win-win situation.

The Daily Mail ladies and gentlemen:

Having appeared twice in the EFL Cup this term, Carter-Vickers was given a taste of FA Cup action when Aston Villa visited White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The 19-year-old American performed well at right back, making an important block to deny James Chester early in the second half.

His biggest challenge remains getting past Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier and into Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI.

Take a bow Joe Strange.

Worried about a loan. If we loan him to a team in a lower league that's struggling they will teach him to long ball it or go for experience. Why would a team doing well want him?
Another season with us getting the odd game and minutes proving himself in a way we want him to play might be the best option for him at his age.

Saying that i would loan out josh to a lower league team doing well. If they are winning are more likely to give him game time.

I noticed that as well, and came to the conclusion that he was looking to pass forward but decided against it due to following instructions not to take any risks.

For those who may not have seen a lot CCV he is a very competent passer, in terms of short ground passing going forward. He is accurate and generally confident enough to do it, or chip the ball down the line. I also noticed he played within himself in that aspect, whether he decided to or it was an instruction from Poch it is understandable either way.

Being ultra critical I agree with some posters say he was a bit slow or hesitant in possession but otherwise he was faultless and no harm going safety first while trying to establish yourself. You don't want to give the manager any reason to think your a liability at that age, which could also affect his confidence.
