Nice article/interview - US-centric, but still a fun read.

Speaking about training at Tottenham:

Carter-Vickers agreed: “Obviously as a football player you want to play games but training at Tottenham with world-class and international players is always sharp. It's always hard.”

ETA - US have a tough match tonight/tomorrow against Venezuela - I don't think anyone has scored against them in the U20 WC, and I think they are the leading scorers.

I'm wondering what Poch will do with him, there is no way he's going to break into the team at the moment.

Would you loan Cameron?
I would because he is only 19 with have the best defence in the league that could play together for a good few years yet. Putting him out on loan gives him experience and will increase his value if he does well.

US has been under a fair amount of pressure in the first half against Venezuela. CCV hasn't really stood out as being any better or worse than the rest of the squad bar Klinsmann who's produced a couple of good saves.

The team has struggled to clear their lines and push out of defense on occasion a D CCV has been guilty as well. Second half starting soon, not sure I'll be staying up.

OK, I did watch the second half and the first part of extra time before falling asleep. CCV looked mostly better during the second half. The team itself was much better organized, but were still under a lot of pressure. There were a number of times when CCV read the game well and made good interceptions.

There was also a moment late in the game where he just got bullied off a long ball, but the forward was isolated and unable to take advantage. He also almost had an own goal off a corner, but it happened to ricochet favorably.

Set piece defending seemed fairly poor for most of the game, CCV was often set up to mark the near 6 yard box corner and would look to attack the ball. Free kicks would frequently avoid that area. The few times he had a chance to get a headed clearance he struggled to get good distance.

I don't watch much of the youth teams, so obviously take all these observations with a mound of salt. But I was left with the impression he's still got a ways to go. Though he had looked better with the Tottenham first team, so it may be just a difference in quality of teammates.

I know its HITC but this wouldn't be a bad loan for him. If Rafa is interested i say we loan him out and allow him some valuable experience.
He does need game time and this would be a good move for him but Poch's policy is if the player has a future here, he doesnt let them go on a loan. Loaning CCV would make it seem like he has no future here which is contrary to anything Poch has said about him.

Poch just has to re-evaluate his stance on loans. Especially for CCV where he needs to go up against forwards in game type situations to gain that experience.

Do we think he's got what it takes? Never see people particularly excited about him.

I bet you like a lot of other people weren't excited about Harry Kane either when he made his debut under Tim Sherwood.

Let's see how he develops. Central defence is a difficult position to excite fans.

I can't see why you think that poster was having a dig at you, it seemed a perfect reasonable response to the question.
