Not wanting to be contrary, but I felt he struggled at times last night. Naturally Brighton made it near impossible for us, and we pushed everyone forward into the same space, so options and time was limited. But passes were loose, the odd hesitation led to being dispossessed, and he lacked some initiative.

Second half was much better because he dropped back into his familiar hook role, and could influence things better. Thankfully he finally got his shooting boots in gear as well.

Essential player.

Over the moon he got the winner, even happier with the positive news from Iggy. Agog as to why some on here would even consider flogging him (onions). He’s one of us!!! Have a top day all & COME ON WOLVES!!!

But Igi said he'd heard Eriksen is definitely off in the summer. Positive news?

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is prepared to talk about extending his contract - but not until the end of the season, says boss Mauricio Pochettino.

"I hope and wish Christian can be with us in the future," said Pochettino. "I think Christian and us, we are so open to talk and we will see what happens. "It's a situation that's a very special one and Christian is a special person. The timing for him or for the club to be agreeing something is maybe different to another player.

"It's so close to the end of the season and there's a lot of time to talk afterwards. The most important thing now, not only for him, is for all the players to be focused and try to achieve the things we want."

I don't see him at Real Madrid. Possibly Barcelona. That would depend on Coutinho still being there next season possibly. It doesn't seem like he and the Camp Nou faithful get on.

He probably wants cast iron assurances that if he commits his future to us, we’ll actually invest in the squad to make us more competitive rather than fuck about in the transfer window

Yeah he’s still nowhere near his best. Didn’t help though that there was virtually no movement at all in front of him at times.

I really hope he stays, but I also hope if he does we finally buy another creative player in the summer. There is too much burden on him to always pull the strings.

Agreed - i think this has been the case for some time in fairness. We've not really been able to rotate him/select him for optimal games due to the lack of competition in his role.

I say 'role' loosely as he does tick a lot of boxes in our team in terms of vision, passing both in the final 3rd and from deep and shooting from range. His skills are more than useful but not when he's tired/out of form and not against all opposition. But with a few priorities mounting for the summer transfer window, i think we'll make do with keeping Eriksen and strengthening elsewhere TBH.

I think that’s fair enough to be honest.

We need to be showing a bit more ambition this summer and making a few improvements to squad rather than standing still as we did last summer.

We are still doing well this season in spite of this but it has been a struggle and you can see where the gaps are in squad.

I do wonder who will actually come in for him. There's something about Eriksen's understated style that doesn't seem to attract the giant clubs. Even though he was really highly rated as a youngster we managed to get him from Ajax on the cheap when we were a 5th placed also-ran. None of the big boys were willing to even take the risk.

Barca were willing to spend £100-odd million on Coutinho, who I think most neutrals would agree is an inferior player, because there's a certain eye-catching flashiness to his play. Eriksen meanwhile racks up impressive goals and assists year after year but has never been subject to a full on "raid" or "swoop" from Madrid or Barca.

I was about 95% sure he'd leave but with Madrid's limited funds - it's practically guaranteed they're going to go v.big for Hazard - and Barca spending massively on De Ligt and De Jong, I wonder if either will be willing to pay the Levy tax to get him. And if they don't then I can't really see him going elsewhere (maaaaybe Juve/Bayern?).

If we get CL and Levy pinky-swears to actually make some real life human signings I'm starting to think there's a decent chance he'll sign.

I believe the ITK is to the contrary - he only wants Madrid. Correct me if i'm wrong though!

But I'm waiting until the end of the season.

Madrids limited funds? They are about to sign a £1.4bn kit deal. It's also the presidential elections. They will spend big. Maybe not on eriksen though.

I still think he leaves in the summer as he hasn't yet signed a new contract which strongly indicates he is looking at moving on.

Just saw this article posted.

Daniel Levy intends to make it as difficult as possible for Christian Eriksen to quit Tottenham this summer by sticking to his £140million valuation of the player, Football Insider understands.

The Spurs chairman will not allow elite clubs to prise away the Denmark playmaker for what he considers to be anything less than the player’s true value even though he is out of contract in 14 months.

A club source has told Football Insider that Levy’s masterplan to keep Eriksen both next season and in the long term involves using the staggering price tag as a tactic to bring him back to the negotiating table.

Talks over a new deal have been put on hold as the 27-year-old and his representatives assess the interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Eriksen as they prepare for a major overhaul following a wretched campaign and they are expected to make a move at some point.

The source explained that Levy intends to hold firm in the face of interest, block any hopes of an easy exit and then present a new contract offer to the attacking midfielder that would provide a significant upgrade on his current £75,000-a-week deal.

Levy regards Eriksen as in the same bracket as Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool last year for a Premier League-record fee of £142million including add-ons.

Coutinho had signed a five-year a year before he left Anfield and was also two years younger than Eriksen is now, but the long-standing Spurs chairman is convinced the Dane is a player operating at his peak and one who can match that record sum in what is still a buoyant market.

Not just to give him a breather, but sometimes to play with him on the pitch also.

Not a popular opinion on here I know, but I’d happily sell Lamela if we get any takers and buy another creative AM.

There is no way Spurs will be getting £140million for Eriksen - and even Levy know this.
As stated in the article, Coutinho had 4 years left of his contract while Eriksen only have 1 year left; so the 2 cases are not comparable. Besides, Barca were really keen on Coutinho while in the case of Eriksen they haven't shown the same zeal to get him and even though they could have gone all out to get him this summer they decided the spend the money de Jong, who plays in a similar position as Eriksen.
I will be surprised if Spurs would get more than £60-70millions for Eriksen.

I'm salivating at the thought of Grealish and Eriksen playing as part of an AM 3 behind Kane.

Think that would take us up to City levels of slick play. If we could get better full backs and a solid midfield I think we'll be right up there.

That's what we need to be selling Eriksen to hopefully persuade him to stay
