Nah, I actually think we would have done the right thing. Still been mugged, but we are better placed than say a year ago, in both positions, to cope with it.

Unfortunate side of the modern game. Running down a contract gives a player so much power. Ozil and Sanchez both got ridiculous financial rewards for stringing Arsenal along, there's no real downside for a top player, unless their form falls off a cliff (which has actually happened to both of these players after they got their big pay day).]

I do believe that Eriksen is doing it for potential dream transfer leverage however.

Eriksen has had a career path in mind from day one. He delayed moves from Ajax, he chose Spurs instead of larger suitors, etc.

But if the one club is Barca, where does he fit with Messi and Coutinho? A move to Barca still seems about 2-3 seasons too premature.

It's the only way for a decent player to move for less than 100mil.

Based on what AliZ has said today it sounds like it's more to do with him wanting to fulfil his ambition of playing for a specific club (Barca?) than the money at this stage.

That makes sense and to be honest i cant see him going anywhere else and if it has to be Barca then so be it. I guess also from a club point of view there needs to be a cut off - I cant see Barca buying him theyre hell bent on whats his face from Ajax

Midfield 2 of rakitic and eriksen is pretty good to be honest, getting back to the iniesta xavi days with all the creativity. Could we get ousmane dembele in return? With his attitude or problems at barca that they keep reporting.he could be the maverick we need to drag us along. If we got top dollar i would love to put a bid in for dybala, poch is a big fan also

It sounds like he’s going to be honest. You can’t really fault the guy but looking ominous.

We need to think very carefully about replacing him already

Regarding the player - he's done more than enough for us. If he leaves honorably, I'll do nothing but wish him the best. Incredible servant to the club and one of the best players I've ever seen play for us.

The thought of losing him however is terrifying.

The thought of Levy being the man to buy his replacement is an outright nightmare.

We always sell our prized players. I don't know how everyone is acting all shocked. We've been doing it for years

So it seems to be Madrid.. fuck those mother fuckers. This is going to drag easily into the summer until they pick a manager I'd imagine. Who ever that ends up being could be the deciding factor on Eriksens future here at Tottenham.

If it had to happen, I'd gladly take Isco in return.

Can only see him playing for Barca. He's been amazing for us, so I won't begrudge him going. Just not sure how we could replace him.

Lets presume its Madrid, the one club thing works in our favour imo. I don't see Eriksen really going cheap like some people, just seems so unlikely that even with a year left, Levy would let him go for 50mil.

Likely a change of manager and a overhaul of players at Madrid with Neymar, Mbappe, Hazard at the top of the list. I honestly see them cutting corners somewhere and i'm not sure they'd consider us worth the hassle for a non top priority player.

Isco seems dead there though, so he will do as compensation.

As gutted as I’d be to lose Eriksen, if he doesn't sign by the end of the season we should sell him early in the summer. The Dele and Kane contracts clearly show that we’re paying wages to keep top talent, so if he’s not signing it’s either because he wants to play for a bigger club, or because he wants Alexis style mega wages. There is little we can do about either of those things.

Utd couldn’t keep Cristiano Ronaldo, Liverpool couldn’t keep Suarez or Coutinho, so I don’t blame the club if we can’t keep Eriksen, nor did I when we couldn’t keep Berbatov or Bale. Footballers are blessed to have a unique gifts, and the best players moreso, but they have a finite time within which to maximise that gift. Sometimes we just need to accept that their plan doesn’t match what we would like and be grateful to have seen them at their best.

We recovered from losing Berbatov, we recovered from losing Modric, we recovered from losing Bale. I hope we don’t lose Eriksen, but if we do then we will recover.

He’s going to be impossible to replace. One of the worlds best players basically.

This is a nightmare scenario
Personally I don't have him as one of the World's best player and I know that we could function without him (Not that I want him gone)
