As gutted as I’d be to lose Eriksen, if he doesn't sign by the end of the season we should sell him early in the summer. The Dele and Kane contracts clearly show that we’re paying wages to keep top talent, so if he’s not signing it’s either because he wants to play for a bigger club, or because he wants Alexis style mega wages. There is little we can do about either of those things.

Utd couldn’t keep Cristiano Ronaldo, Liverpool couldn’t keep Suarez or Coutinho, so I don’t blame the club if we can’t keep Eriksen, nor did I when we couldn’t keep Berbatov or Bale. Footballers are blessed to have a unique gifts, and the best players moreso, but they have a finite time within which to maximise that gift. Sometimes we just need to accept that their plan doesn’t match what we would like and be grateful to have seen them at their best.

We recovered from losing Berbatov, we recovered from losing Modric, we recovered from losing Bale. I hope we don’t lose Eriksen, but if we do then we will recover.

For.the most part I agree. But playing devils advocate there are players that, certainly in the short to medium term we couldn't replace or recover from. Carrick was the biggest loss to spurs imo. Left a gaping hole in arguably the most important part of the pitch.

Similarly, Eriksen doesn't really have an equal or a suitable understudy in the team. We played well without him, however, it just means a different approach to how Poch sets up. But momentum is so important, which is why keeping established and clever players in this set up is so important.

Ultimately, succession planning and contingencies are important. Levy and poch are not stupid. I'm sure they will be working a strategy for.if Eriksen does depart. Which I sincerely hope not.

Eriksen would perform to another level at Barca imo and Eriksen will know that.

They aren't stupid but we haven't exactly shown great succession-planning over the years. We didn't properly replace Carrick, Modric or Berbatov, and it hurt our development. Dembele is, by all accounts, on his last legs, and we haven't got a proper successor in. We still don't have a proper understudy for Kane.

The one area we have done this well is CB imo. Sanchez and Foyth are quality and will surely lessen the blow if Toby leaves and, in a few years, when Jan retires.

time is needed to "recover", and during this period we probably won't win anything and others like kane and dele may want to leave too. you have to keep your best players to achieve

Do these ‘best players’ get any say in what happens to them and their careers ? If they want to move to particular club and their contract is running down what can be done to stop them if they won’t sign a new contract.

It's easier said than done to find a tailor-made replacement even if you have a plan. I am afraid it doesn't work like that.

I'm curious as to what the younger Hazard could do in the prem (as a sort of replacement that is).

I'm sure it isn't easy. But we didn't get any proper replacements for those players, let alone a tailor made one.

Barca's the only club he wants isn't it? Pretty sure he stated that at some stage.

We must be doing something right though as proved by our top four finishes and our players being in such demand by the very best teams.

Since when have one of our top players leaving us cause catastrophe the answer is never ;when Greaves ;Carrick ; Berbatov ; Bale ; Sherringham left the club far from collapsing we went on to improve from where we were when they were at the club.
Possibly Sherringham was the biggest gap not filled with good enough player/players.

Surely Levy will want maximum gain out of a possible transfer. If Eriksen doesn’t sign a new contract soon he might be sold in January.

I think this is especially true for the Spurs model. As there are financial constraints, squad size issues etc. We don't have the luxury of waiting and hoping for a youth prospect to fill a void. (If we wish to remain competitive at this level).

All that said, some players are almost impossible to replace directly. Due to their skill levels.

From last year.

While Eriksen will publicly insist publicly that he is content with life at Tottenham, it doesn’t take much prodding to reveal his true feelings as when rumours surfaced that the Catalan giants were eyeing up a move to Eriksen as their bid to sign Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho floundered last summer, the Spurs playmaker admitted he would jump at the chance to move to the Nou Camp.

“I don’t think there a lot of players who would say no to Barcelona,” he told reporters in his native Denmark. “In the future I see myself at the highest level. That’s what I dream about. That could be in two to three years. It could be at a different club or it could be at Tottenham, if we have got all the way to that level.”

So it seems to be Madrid.. fuck those mother fuckers. This is going to drag easily into the summer until they pick a manager I'd imagine. Who ever that ends up being could be the deciding factor on Eriksens future here at Tottenham.

If it had to happen, I'd gladly take Isco in return.
Definitely the opening condition.

Obviously not a question to the itk itself, but where does he draw the line on if he cant get a move to said club will he sign a contract? If the club dont go for him in Jan/Summer? I would hope it would be by next summer at the latest.

I'm sure his agent could sound out the club and see if they are interested or not and give them a deadline
