Just opinion of of course and I'm not taking a dig at the recent ITK. But I just can't see Isco signing for us. It's just so very rare that these mega clubs sell their "in house"-players to begin with, and when they do it's usually to another mega club.

Maybe I'm cynical.

At the end of the day, Manchester Utd couldn’t prevent Cristiano Ronaldo leaving for Madrid and in his final three seasons with them he’d won three Premier League titles and one Champions League. They are the biggest, most successful club in the world and regardless of anybody else’s riches, global fan base, twitter followers etc, there’s very little that can be done 9 out of 10 times that Madrid decide they want someone. Pochettino is intelligent enough to realise that if losing Eriksen is inevitable, then better to lose him for £100m in January than £40m in the summer or free in 18 months. I’d hazard a guess that if Eriksen left sooner, it would be Pochettino’s choice and that in turn would suggest that he was committed to staying with us beyond the end of the season, or wise why would he care about Eriksen leaving in the summer for less or for free a year later?

Liverpool sold Coutinho in the January window last year when he was having the season of his life. The difference is, they got an obscene amount of money for him and had already identified an expensive new target for a more urgent position that needed improving (Van Dijk) that they were planning to raise the funds to bring in and improve the team with.

I don't see a position in our starting XI that is so obviously deficient that it would make sense to sell a player of Eriksen's quality to splash out and improve it, especially when the fees we are likely to get for Eriksen given the contract situation would mean that we'd barely be able to afford his replacement (eg - Maddison) and then not have much left over anyway.

Unless we're offered silly money and have key players identified to bring in to use it with then I'd rather wait until the summer and take the hit TBH.

Also - if Eriksen starts next season at the Bernabeu the way he tends to start seasons for us from August till about October or November then he will get absolutely slaughtered by that fan base

I never thought of CE as a natural fit for RM given how flashy they are, how dreadful their match going fans are etc. Seems like the opposite personality wise than CE. I know Barca massively overhype this more than a club business and have sold out anyway in the past few years but still would have thought Barca would be the club he identified with

Personally, if Eriksen goes and we fail to get Isco, then we should put all our efforts into signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon. He has all the tools to be world class and is already playing very intelligent, skilled football. He should be our number 1 target if Eriksen goes. There is a reason Pep rates him so highly.

Why would Eriksen want to leave in January and be cup tied for CL? Or Real want a cup tied player?

Although, here’s a mad idea - sell him to Real in January, but loan him back until the summer.

Yeah, I know, but think about it...no, listen, listen, it makes sense and, no, I know, but...

Obviously we all want Eriksen to stay, but if he decides to leave I hope we could agree a stronger contract in January, where we would be able to get a decent sum in return. If we were to sell him with the current contract we'd get peanuts compared to his true value.

As with Toby, it seems a bit shitty that these lads are going about things this way.

Fair dos wanting to go, they've been great servants, but surely sign a contract and come to a gentleman's agreement to leave, so we don't miss out on hefty transfer fees. Levy did it with Modric and Bale and, I suppose, all parties won from those arrangements.

Neither seem like the sorts of characters to actively go about screwing us, but IF current chatter is correct that's exactly what they're doing.

Seems a shame and still desperately hoping they do sign on to stay at Spurs (or at least get us close to world record breaking fees in their respective positions).

They’re not screwing us it’s how contracts work and the exact way we signed eriksen and a few others in the first place. Players in last year of contract is levy’s mo

If he doesn’t want to stay, sell him in the summer. Get as much as we can for him, and most importantly spend between now and the summer choosing a replacement!

Can't see us selling Eriksen in Jan at all. Although if Eriksen is dead set on going and we can get Isco in return that would really soften the blow.

Hopefully Chelsea sell Hazard to them taking them out of the market.

Not that these things usually work in our favour however...

Get the replacement in in January if possible

There's a new rule which took affect from this season which means he wouldn't be cup-tied. UEFA want the best available players in the competition which means that you can play for more than one club in European competition.

I hope we don’t sell him in January I’d rather keep him until the summer, if we were after maximum value we should have sold him in the summer just gone

No way can I see the club selling Eriksen in January, and if we do, regardless of the finances behind it, we should all be very worried that Poch will leave in the summer too as that is exactly the sort of prioritising finances over sporting ambition stuff which makes your top manager wish to work elsewhere.

There can simply be no excuse, nothing at all, which would make the option of selling Eriksen in January even become an actual serious consideration. We are on the verge of potentially winning a first league title in over 50 years, that is worth far more than even 100 million pounds in the bank. In fact it is quite literally priceless, it is the whole reason the club in in existence. If people start putting transfer fees above winning titles, literally what is the point of any of us carrying on? the only consideration should be, does keeping Eriksen for the season make it more likely to scheve our sporting goals? Yes, ok so we keep him.

Nothing else comes into the picture. We may not get the most we possibly can in the summer, but I ask you this, what is the point of getting an extra 50 million by selling eriksen in January when it ends up costing us our sporting objectives.

Are we a profit focussed player trading business or are we a football club?
Thought from JJ’s post that this wasn’t about money and more about the player’s ambition? He’d be the perfect replacement for Modric though a slightly different player.
