There has been some progress in the contract talks in the past weeks, according to Alasdair Gold.

"In a question-and-answer session on Football London on Sunday (12.59pm), correspondent Alasdair Gold delivered the most encouraging update on the playmaker’s situation for quite some time.
The reliable journalist claimed, “Spurs are working hard to tie Eriksen up to a new deal and I’d heard there has been some progress in recent weeks”.
This makes me so happy, thank you.

Well that would certainly line up with what we had heard before that he only would move to Spain, then Barca signing de Jong and Madrid reported as no longer interested. Hope its all true. Not needing to replace Eriksen in the summer is one of the best "signings" we could make.

His agent has just said he’s concentrating on his football and not a move or contracts etc.

I really hope we just offer him a very good contract and he stays. Imagine tying him down for 4 or 5 years, committing himself to us for his prime years. Would be amazing!

Whether it has been contract talks, or World Cup fatigue, he has not been at his best this season. I’d love him to stay, hit his best form next season at the NWHL.

It would, but I would be pretty surprised if that’s how it played out.

He hasn’t been at his best (still brilliant, don’t get me wrong) and I wonder whether he’s starting to think of playing elsewhere

Nah, clearly not at his best... I mean it's not like he's actually on par with the last two seasons, and his passing has actually improved...

He needs a rocket up his arse, goes missing too many times. I guess this is what happens when you have no pressure for your place though.

He was pretty non-existent and it's only so frustrating because he has so much quality

My only issue with Eriksen, is his 'don't want to get hurt' attitude. I recognize he's not Kante or Dier, and don't expect him to be. But at times he near on waves opposition by him, in pulling out of challenges. Great player, but looks like he fears injury.

What we desperately need is a quality DM with a strong character. We know Eriksen is not a defensive-minded midfielder and provides a lot more attacking-wise. And it was a huge mistake to make him play as one in the midfield and shouldn't have expected him to make those tackles in the first place. We know how he prefers to play. Can't really fault him for not playing his best to be honest. He sets our tempo and provides creativity, we missed that from the beginning but only got worse once he moved down.

My issues with him have been more about his corners and free-kicks.

He's had games he's been slated after where he's actually been very good and pulled all the strings (Newcastle at home, Watford at home), but I feel he's been more guilty of letting games get out of control this season. The thing he does which others in this teams have problems with (Winks apart) is to dictate the flow of the game.

Others should probably shoulder much of the blame as well, but Eriksen has been one of the main reasons we've been such a good possession side in the later seasons and he's not quite lived up to his own high consistent standards this season. Without that having to mean that he's been bad.

He won a header on Saturday. I was there to witness it.

Absolutely agree, its the one thing that has always bugged me about him, on his day he is one of the best, but its far too infrequent lately. Winks has been bossing games he should be

I love Eriksen and his importance to us is huge, but I agree with this. There are timed when we need him to take the game by the scruff of the neck and he just seems to be too passive.

I’ve been banging on for ages about needing some form of competition for his place ( at at least another similar type of player to take the creative burden from him) and these type of situations are where the limitations of our squad are exposed.

Why bother with competition for his place just get a replacement as the man has his mind elsewhere such as Barca.
He has been very good a few times average a few times and useless a lot of times and he strikes me as someone not committed to the cause as he is more interested in not getting hurt .
Move him on get someone who is 100% committed a new man may not be as good but commitment will make up for less ability
