Unlike Bale and Modric I won't be devastated if he leaves. They had their best seasons before they left, and the holes the left in the squad were huge.

Eriksen is a fantastic player, and by far our most creative. However whether it's through a new signing or change of formation I honestly don't think we'll be much worse without him. I'd love him to sign on and finish his career here, but if he goes so be it.

IMO he's suffered badly this season mainly because the whole team have been under par. If he gets his dream move and we get adequately compensated I'm fine with it, but I'd love him to stay with a few fresh faces in the squad to rekindle the flame.

If he wants to leave us then we have to let him go.

However, I believe only a fee of around £75m plus will get it done. He is the type of player who will still be massively effective until he is in his mid thirties. He has many years in his prime ahead yet, so the fee must reflect that.

The only problem is him only having 1 year left on his contract. However, he has shown before that he would be willing to sign a deal to help his current club rather than threaten to run it down and leave for free.

I don’t think he would try to fuck us over in that regard.

Doesn’t matter how long we’ve known about it.

If you’re in a relationship but you start to get a bit flirty with someone else, you wouldn’t suddenly dump your partner a few days before their big birthday party, do you?

Reports were Kyle Walker did......

I hope he does leave now, it will be better for us.

Don't want him signing a new deal in a deflated sort of way. It's obvious he wants to go so hopefully it's sorted out and we get who we want in.

I'd love him to sign a new deal, but I do agree and think we really need to cash in on him this summer. Get him to Madrid out of sight and use him as leverage to get a good deal on Bale and/or Isco plus a wad of cash. Use him as the catalyst for the rebuild.

Risky otherwise. He's already lost a lot of popularity with the fans and many won't accept being left hanging while he looks for a better deal. There's also be the question of hunger going forward. I can see where he's coming from but the vocal majority in the crowd wouldn't IMO.

It will be Madrid or Juve imo whoever doesn’t end up with Pogba. Which I’m fine with. Obviously rather we kept him but only if he’s 100% committed which I don’t believe is the case.

Those saying PSG, they are not a step up from us. Financially yes, but Eriksen is not motivated by money, we know that because he chose us over more lucrative offers. He has a career plan and it’s about achievements which I respect. PSG play in a terrible league and fail continuously on the biggest stage.

First kit I ever bought. Will be incredibly sad to see him go.

He's an unbelievable player and we will miss him greatly. Lots of work to do this summer baldy.

If we have known about it for such a long time, then Poch and the spurs hierarchy would have known about it too. So to refer to your analogy, there were signs the relationship was going to be ending a long time before the big birthday party. He hasn't dumped us, he's looking toward a fresh challenge at a bigger club... and if a deal can't be made then he says he will sign a new contract to re-commit to us. As opposed to leaving on a free in another season. He's given so much to us over the years I can't begrudge him at all... if he goes then best of luck to him and we know for sure that Levy will make sure we get handsomely paid. If he ends up staying then we keep one of our best and most experienced players in our squad.

The Christian Eriksen kit? I must have missed that in the club shop.

I actually see him leaving as possibly a good thing. This is very different to when we lost Bale, Modric and walker who all left huge holes in our team, Eriksen is brilliant but not quite at any of those 3’s level in terms of their specific position and this is more akin to when Liverpool sold coutiniho, sure they lost an amazing player but they spread the funds to upgrade 3 clear weaknesses and tweak how they played slightly and they’ve improved massively, football is dynamic as poch says and I’m sure they have a plan to replace Eriksen and improve the way we play which I don’t think is nessercarily a bad thing, it’s the ‘end of the first chapter’ and beginning of the new one so a bit of a shake up now is probably a good thing.

He’s been a brilliant servant to us but as many have said his body language hasn’t been right all year, we don’t need to be ITK’s to see that he’s not his usual happy self out there and that he is now wanting a move. It’s like when you’ve worked for a company for 4-5 years but you’re just tired of the same old and want a new challenge, completely understandable.

Hope he gets his move to Madrid and it gets sorted early. COYS

Hes basically saying if nobody comes in for him then he’ll sign a contract with us. But we knew that didn’t we?

“It depends on Daniel Levy (Tottenham's chairman, ed.), And another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can't set a date yourself”

The situation has the hallmarks of a win-win-win for all parties.

Poch's teams reflect hungry, driven players, all playing for one another.

The fact that Eriksen caveats his comments with the old you know,..
if no one better comes in for me I'll sign a new deal... don't sit well with me.

Not having a go at him, but we're better than that now.

He wants to leave, and has served us well. Absolutely no problem.

But it's better he leaves now. I want to see a fresh motivated side raring to go for next season. Not the hub of our team treading water until a big move materialises.

Does anyone better want him for the price. Wouldn't be surprised if he stays

Potential buyers and the price tag are two interesting facets of this transfer.

Some of the biggest teams across Europe are looking to have an overhaul this summer; will Eriksen be high of their list of priorities?

That said, would Eriksen with a year left on his contract be all that expensive, relatively speaking?

Would we turn down £55m for him if there's only one club in for him and he has 12 months until he goes for free AND for those 12 months he's not going to be playing particularly well?

Watch this space...

If he does end up signing a new contract it’ll most likely be a short one with a release clause added. Maybe that’s best for all parties.

If he wants to go then sell him for a huge sum. Liverpool did the same with Coutinho and didn't look back.

It's all about how we replace and adapt. Players leave all the time, and we've had great success in retaining our best players in the last few years.
