Fair point, but at this point they have little interest so maybe lower the value to something that is reasonable to him for just that team. I just feel there has to be a compromise here. Oh, and none of this speaks to the choice at all, which frankly is a train wreck at this point and they certainly don't view him as the answer. Perhaps a new coach comes in and that changes, but it also points to what a mess they are. I don't get the feeling that Madrid will be a fun place to be this year. It says something when they don't want him to be a part of their worst side in a decade.

Well sure but that's what you think. It's what Eriksen thinks that matters. It's his career, he's entitled to do whatever he likes with it.

For those of you say we should turn down 50m and let him go free, I hope you won't be whinging next summer when we're struggling to make signings because we don't have the money.

It's shit that Eriksen wants to leave, but we're just not in the position as a club to not take 50m for a player when the alternative is zero. Next summer we're going to have to buy a RB, CB, and probably an Eriksen replacement at minimum. We absolutely need money. One season of Eriksen isn't worth mortgaging the future for. Plus we already have Lo Celso to step into his role for this season.

I 100% hope he stays and resigns but can't let sentiment overcome good sense, no player is bigger than the club.
the issue is he doesnt have to accept any move so we may not have a decision to make, if it gets us CL football then is it worth 50m?

Wasn't there ITK that Eriksen had agreed a deal in principle and that we were frustrated that it had been sitting for 3 weeks?

It's possible that Eriksen is just keeping his options open. He knows Spurs will sell, he knows he can leave on a free next summer, and he knows he has an offer on the table. While it might not be the best for Spurs (or the mental health of Spurs supporters), I think more players should put themselves in a position to control their own destiny. As opposed to Zaha that signs a new deal every August, and come July he's handing in transfer requests.

Eriksen has always been a very intelligent person (not just an intelligent player). He chose to stay at Ajax longer, then he chose not to go to Barca, then he chose Spurs over higher profile clubs. He seems to know his levels, knows what he needs to improve and knows where he needs to be. Good for him.

If we don't get an offer and he leaves for free next summer then fair play, we didn't have any choice in the matter. It is what it is.

As for the CL debate, I think we are more than capable of getting CL football without Eriksen.

Would you rather
a) have him this year and lose on a free next year
b)let him go now for 40mil?

(b)

- I think £40m is a lot of cash if you use it wisely
- I don't think we win the league or CL with him anyway
- I think we have enough to get in the top 4 without him, as long as our new signings bed in

When does the continental window close? Why would Eriksen sign a new contract with us while there's still an opportunity for a move that he like?

From what I understand it isn't money or trophies that's particularly motivating him, but a change of scene and a genuine step up. And he's said that if that doesn't come to pass, then he'd stay, because "why not?"

Its all fair play imo.

I think i'd probably agree, money would go straight into bringing in Bruno Fernandes in Jan or next summer i suppose.

Everyone mentions 40-50 million, but at this stage theres nothing to suggest that, if Real do bid, they will offer that much. They've really been trying to cheap out on De Beek, made a derisory bid or two for Pogba and are trying to ship their deadwood to Paris for Neymar. Unless more leave and sharp, I think Real are done or will offer closer to 20-30.

You know, he does the near post corner routine for a reason.
9 times out of 10 the defender clears it, but those times he doesn't make a clean contact, then we get a half chance. But the main reason is if the guy clears it, it is usually back out wide, and we retain possession.
If you cross it 'into the mixer' by the penalty spot, it certainly is dramatic, but CBs are built for this and win it every time. And what's worse is they naturally clear it downfield where you run the risk of a counter attack.

All the same, it was very funny when he hit the first man again with that first corner.

He must of heard it too. It was literally the whole of the south stand.
