Depends on your definition of marquee signing.

Do you consider Andy Carroll as a marquee signing when Liverpool paid (even more that Sissoko's transfer fee) for him?
Yes even though I never rated the player, Dalglish was clearly looking for Carroll to take them to the next level, it didn't work of course.

Just like us getting Sissoko, I think most of their fans were bemused at the high fee that the club had agreed to fork out to get the player.

That Harry Hotspur is sensationalising it like a proper daily mail journalist - why would our own fans turn this in to something it isn't. I really get frustrated by fellow fans sometimes.

Convinced he's not a Spurs fan. Most negative, whinging c*** I've had the misfortune of reading in my life. I give him a WIDE berth.

He is. But while I largely agree with Rose's comments, and think Harry is a WUM, I did laugh at his Donna Cullen remark and the gist that Spurs fans thinking we're 100% happy ship are conning themselves.

It's a definite PR own goal as is ripe for spinning and not something you can imagine coming out so direct from players of other top 4 teams unless they were off. No one at Liverpool is calling them a nearly team despite doing nothing for years, they're talking of all the great things about to happen.

Are our players just permitted to chat about anything at length or has Danny gone rogue? He does tend to from time to time, makes him one of the more interesting players in interviews. But this isn't particularly helpful

Naive to think going on national radio and calling us a nearly club is going to result in anything else.

I totally agree. People may read it in different ways but even mentioning "nearly club" can do more harm than good. It also makes you wonder if some of the players have not discussed it also. He talks about bringing in depth but if Walker and possibly he goes then all we will be doing is replace what we have with less. We have the best two fullbacks in the country why give them to our rivals to make them stronger? I think this time of the year when clubs are looking to strengthen the interview was bad timing.

I listened to the whole thing last night and thought Danny came across as a thoroughly decent fella. I also think that he sounded very happy at the club and that his comments stating that the club can only do so much to keep players, were a very positive but honest indictment of where we are and he clearly feels we're going in the right direction - he acknowledged that we can't pay the very highest wages, but he stated, along the lines, that asling as we keep improving and progressing, showing ambition, we will get to the silverware promised land.

He was pushed to say what we could do to improve and he was honest. My opinion is that he certainly won't be leaving (bar the unforceable i.e. fall out with Poch etc..) any time soon and that he doesn't foresee many players within the group wanting to leave either. He was asked directly, in the context of the closeness of the squad, how he would feel about a marquee signing coming in and whether that could cause an imbalance in squad harmony, and his answer was that he personally would feel motivated by it and thought the squad would too... personally, that's what I want to hear from our players.

I felt proud that he was our player representing our club. Good on you Danny - you've got my support.

He comes across as a thoroughly settled and honest guy. He's had a lot of shit of Spurs fans over the years, but I fucking love him. He always gives 100% and never leaves anything out on the park. He's awesome.

He is spot on in what he says about why a player might want to leave, we all have to be honest with ourselves about that.

I'm not sure I think we need a marquee signing though, we should continue as we are, with our long trusted transfer policy.

Jesus, Rose return unknown and we're selling the other best full back in the league.

Ok...

And we still were tonking teams with Trippier and Davies without either Walker or Rose :)

(Not to say dont want fully fit Rose back maurading left wing asap but Davies is doing well).

Having read the Harry Hotspur article. It does seem a Kelvin McKenzie moment for him. I've not looked at his previous work. However, this diatribe does not inspire very much confidence in it.

He will sign it, its is second deal in less than a year but like I said it doesn't mean it will fend off interest or does it mean he won't want to move on next season. He made it very clear he wants to win things and see us make some high calibre signings.

In my opinion he won't sign it. Makes things tougher to leave

Don't see why he wouldn't? He signed one less than a year ago so it's only going to be an extra year but probably a good bit of a pay rise for him. An extra year on his contract won't do much to hurt him or benifit us if United or City come calling.
