Seriously judging one mistake within a players first game in the division is not really fair.
It was not the only time his positioning was slightly out. I simply gave a single example after someone questioned the fact that his positioning was anything less than perfect...it wasn't even me who started this conversation by describing him as having "suspect positioning".

Also, it's no less fair than other people on here making out that he's the perfect signing, judged on a single match.

For the record, I think he's a very good CB with the potential to be world-class. I'm just not getting carried away, as all young CBs have plenty left to learn.

I agree.

He had a good game though.

But, people (and this isn't really aimed at you) tend to forget the human element of football.

Imagine being 21, coming to a new country, not being fluent in the language, and having barely had time to settle and being thrown into a game which is much quicker, much more physical and far less forgiving than what you were doing in your previous job. In that context Sanchez did incredibly well. Does this mean he is the next King? No. But credit where credit is due. He was great today.

CB, after goalkeeper, is the least forgiving position in the pitch. Mistakes are heightened and there is a lot more responsibility. Most international players who come to the PL take a while to settle in and play their best football, there exceptions of course but this is the norm. Playing CG at 21 is really hard and mistakes not only will happen but are part of the learning curve and part of how players mature as footballers. I just hope when Sanchez will inevitably make mistakes and much more serious ones than anything he did today people will keep this in mind.

His pace in the middle of a 3 is absolutely crucial ,especially at Wembley. Also remember he's flown half way round the world this week prob only got back from Columbia on Thursday .

I think he was the ideal signing - not based on one game, but based on his skill set: Speed and Strength. Those skills complement Toby and Jan perfectly, as they are very good with the ball, positionally strong, and can read the match very well - but lacked the recovery pace, and raw strength.

Sanchez will appear "better" than he really is, because he is paired with two outstanding CBs that will help Sanchez positionally. But Sanchez will also help get more out of Toby and Jan because Sanchez has the ability to cover when either push forward. He showed that a couple of times today - where his athleticism bailed out the defense.

As others have said - it is a great blend of skills to have in one back line. They will make mistakes, they will concede goals - but whoever pushed for bringing Sanchez in deserves credit - as does Levy for sanctioning the big spend on a young player.

It's amazing to think that so many fans were disappointed with our activity in the transfer window. This guy looks like the real deal, Aurier looks like an exciting replacement for Walker that suits our style of play, and Llorente is an ideal backup for Kane that will definitely contribute goals.

Given that Pochettino has signed Alderweireld, Trippier, and Davies, I certainly trust his judgement when it comes to defenders. Even Wimmer was a success in his first season.

I don't really want to go too overboard with the praise personally as he'll undoubtedly have his struggles in this league but a hugely encouraging performance and debut nevertheless.

What I hope it represents more than anything else is more of us deploying a back three with increased regularity over the flat back four - it really does work so much better with our personnel, especially so when Rose returns and Aurier acclimatises to compete with Davies and Tripps respectively.

His lightning pace is definitely a very positive addition to our CBs.

We had a better window than most of our rivals and were already ahead of all but Chelsea. Unfortunately, the two Manchester clubs had very good windows.

Was expecting him to play rcb tbh, supprised but i do think Toby is better at rcb than cb in a back 3

loved that moment when he closed down an Everton played down our defensive left side. Pulled off an impressive acrobatic block then got up quickly to put in a second challenge to give a throw in. Showed off brilliant what he is all about, quick, strong, athletic and commited defender. He will get better with the nuances, but there's no doubt that this guy can become a complete world class beast of a defender, Im so excited to be able to watch him grow and mature as a footballer over the years.

He was okay, people are going crazy with the hype need to calm down this will be unpopular but he was ok not great. For some reason I was glued to watching him as if I was scouting him.

He was out of position a few times he got lucky in the first half he stepped up everyone else dropped if not for a better pass Rooney/Sandro would have been clean through luckily he just managed to get a foot to it.

Another time about 17 minutes I think he totally lost his man then adopted the most weird body position to try and refind his man he literally did not know where he was. There was a few times where he totally got bamboozeled by runners and system.

He also got away with dallying on the ball once.

There was also a corner where for some reason he got so confused he ended up on the edge of area watching our midfielders struggling to clear it.

People on here and on twitter are acting like he's the reincarnation of baresi or ledley.

Let's be honest Everton were awful going forward today anyways mainly thanks to Dier who was excellent.

Putting a ridiculous amount of pressure on him he's a young lad, he's got potential but he's still insanely raw. What I will say he's a monster in the air got a great leap on him.

He actually reminded me of a better version of Anthony Gardener who at times was awful but on his day a different animal.

Very, very embarrassing comments by an unlearned. Respectfully sir, do you know the game? I do not mean to sound rude, but your post is the most ridiculous to say the least. To then conclude in comparing him to Anthony Gardner. Please stop it. You will embarrass yourself further.

think you and some others are focusing too much on what he isnt instead of what he currently is. The details of his game need to improve as you pointed out, but his upside and potential was on full display against Everton and that along with poch's coaching is what's got people so excited.

Didn't mean the Gardener comparison as a bad thing I was saying he reminds me of Gardener when he was on his good days (which when he was was could be brilliant) at a his basic level.

And to be honest if it wasn't for injuries Gardener was a very good player at times with his odd crazy moments.

Think you've misunderstood my points I am not saying he's not got huge potential but what I'm simply saying he's still a bit raw and we are being really over guilty of hyping up after today's game where it was not much of a contest for any of our players on the pitch.

What I am trying to say is he was ok. But not sensational like people are trying to make out he was.

Glad you can see unlike some other posters on here, that I wasn't saying he's awful but what I was simply saying is he's still a bit raw at times today you could see that . But he's got potential agreed.

we just need to calm down on the hype train and let him develop as the way people are going on about him today it will be rollercoaster when he does make a mistake which he will as he learns and gets used to a new league I don't want to see people turn on him or call him out as he's got unique abilities that will take time as with any centre back to nurture.
