Imagine how good he will be in 3 years!

He makes mistakes but he has slotted in so well for such a young guy playing in his position.

If Toby doesn't sign a new contract and leaves, is it such a worry? Not that I'd want that to happen..I'd be disappointed and upset if he left but do we really need him that much if we have Sanchez is first choice?

Interesting point to discuss I think,

hmm i think although sanchez is good, his ceiling would be higher if he can play with and learn from toby and jan

Nah we really need Toby - Sanchez is already looking the part but he is only 21 and will make mistakes.

We'd miss him in terms of needing 3 top class CBs for 3 at the back or rotation but we wouldn't miss him that much with a starting two.
I'm just not sure where he'd go. Next season there will only be 5 teams really above us in terms of draw, united, city, Barca, real, and Bayer, possibly PSG but I've not seen much interest being shown for him from them.

He's so incredibly calm in situations where most 21 year-old CB's would shit themselves. He messed up near the touchline earlier, and instead of panicking he just did a little Cruyff turn to buy himself some space and get out of trouble. Quality.

Sanchez immediately got up to speed with our high line/off side trap.
(It might be the way MP drills them, as all 4 CBs and Dier are a tight unit when called on.)

He can take on the bigger strikers, which was a weakness with us last season.
And he is quite speedy.

But his distribution is weak in comparison to the others, and lately he is sometimes looking nervous and not clearing his lines. Maybe he is better suited to a back 3?

And there is no sign of a goal threat - that was meant to be one of his assets.

Had a good game today and hopefully that has helped his confidence.

Very good performance today. Poch taking him off was a good thing for me. He’d been making silly mistakes in a few games. Perfect reaction though and was very very good today. For such a young player in an unforgiving position he’s copped with the pressure well. He could easily be the next Ledley King if he keeps his head down and keep learning.

Interesting you say that as at Ajax he was actually allowed to run up the pitch as he has an actual incredible shot on him but when I watched them games back I think the ones he scored in he was actually playing as DM

Glad he was brilliant today. Far too many hot takes last week from the football world on him. He's young, so there'll be the odd mistake but he is quality already. The thought he is still learning is scary, but great for us.

I think for the most part he has been excellent defensively. However, I get so nervous every time he has the ball under even the slightest pressure. My concern is that it is much harder to improve a player on the ball than it is to improve them as defenders. Ball playing is for the most part a natural attribute, whilst you can work on positioning etc...
Nevertheless, still think he is a great buy, his primary job is to defend. Judas was never any good on the ball but was still a top player, I think Sánchez will end up being more like him than Ledley.

That made me chuckle because for a second he clearly had not the slightest idea where the ball was but as soon as he'd located it he made it seem like it was all part of the plan.

Love this guy, plays and behaves in very mature way.... with the occasional brainfart.
Turning in to a monster of a defender though and he has the right mentality:

Davinson Sanchez pledges future to Tottenham Hotspur, even if Real Madrid come calling
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/02/1...dges-future-to-tottenham-hotspur-even-if-rea/

The 21-year-old was asked where he sees his future and told Deporte RCN (Columbian press) that he will never move somewhere for the money and that he is happy at Tottenham:

"Let it be the best for me, I do not think about the money or where it is. Right now here in Tottenham I am very good.
“I am playing every three to four days. I am being important in the team."

He went on to suggest he could even turn down the lure of Real Madrid, if the conditions were better for him to remain at Spurs:
"As big as Madrid is, no matter how big a team, that has won what they have won, if the conditions are not favorable for me, unfortunately I can not accept.
“Everything depends on the moment, the conditions and what is best for me as a player what does not cut my career and what is not profitable to keep taking steps forward.”

Great attitude to have, and I feel like we specifically look for this in new recruits now which is great to see - valuing character as well as ability.
Got to give Levy, Poch & scouts some serious credit; picked up a virtual unknown CB from the Eredivisie, splashed a club record fee and he’s already one of the best in the league.
Nailed it.
